the 90 is interesting its a pretty standard 2.4, around town I get just over 30 mpg it varies between 30 and 34 the trip is all 30 and 40 mph roads and includes stop start driving, on B roads 40 to 50 mph I get around 40 mpg, on A roads 60 mph I get about 30 -35, on the motorway at a steady 70 about 25-28 mpg and finally held on the governor I get 18 mpg.
Caterhams fantastic figures inspired me to work out what is best for mine mpg wise and the scan gauge helps. It is definitely most economic at low revs and as soon as i go over about 1750 rpm the fuelling must alter as the scan gauge shows the mpg suddenly drop. 50 mph approx is also a point at which things appear to change, again this may relate to when the fuelling changes in top gear or could just be the lack of aerodynamics. I tend to drive in the 1250-1850 rpm range now I know this and progress is surprisingly swift, the engine feels happy with this although I'm not adverse to revving it further when the mood takes me. it is standard map DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS, I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy |

That's interesting, thanks I'll try that. Time is precious, waste it wisely... Defender 90 D200 |

well I've had the F20 LCi 120i for a couple of months now and am not convinced its better than the e87 model.
its more grown up and the auto is great round town, although if I had been buying new I would have regretted the £1600 premium over the manual. In terms of handling it dosnt feel anywhere near a focused as the e87 in the corners, it is probably the ride height as much as anything which although both are m-sports is clearly sits significantly higher, it is however more comfortable and passengers have commented on this, it is also easier to get in and out of due to the increased height. the engine is amazing and sounds great under power, and the extra 40 bhp definitely makes itself felt but the cost is much lower mpg, its also so quiet at idle I keep forgetting to switch it off!! all the gadgets i drive etc originally left me cold however the longer I have it the more I find myself using them but they are still a distraction from actually focusing on driving. Am I missing the old one? well only when in the corners or at the petrol station, not at any other times. ![]() Click image to enlarge DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS, I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy |
