OT - V8 future classic or not?

I am thinking of an 'interesting' second (or maybe 3rd

car)

This model has always interested me, a Rover with a factory fitted Mustang power plant, what do you think, a future classic or not?

only thing with MG rover hardware is the parts sadly, and yes anything to do with MG Rover will be classic

The MG Rover parts network is getting very thin now sadly, a lot of stuff is listed no longer avaible. So bare that in mind! ( so you will need to do some right old digging) If you are willing to get your hands dirty and i mean dirty ( practically do everything your self etc) Then why not go for it! Be very wary of Rover info been very iffy, as most hard core rover boys, sold up long ago now

I did have a massive build thread on pug306.net, I posted more about the metro than I did about the 306! Most of the forum followed everything! Pushed me on with the car, and were all over the moon to see it make it on the road!

I would have been in the metro scene for 10 years now if I still had kept mine. I was my own support in the end, as the metro power forum, had that much confiction and rubbish it was turned the full deal sour for me. People stating you need to do this, and this fits etc. Which turned out not to be so

The new metro owners club moved away from all the confliction etc, and turned into save as many and get the metro noticed for what the car really is, not some heap. A few owners were starting to ask questions on this and that and the other. Well procta here had pictures of it all! So i wrote up a few how to guides for the metro owners club, and the data base was starting to be come really good, with people sharing proper info and experience.
The sad thing for me, was the parts started to get to thin on the ground for me, and it was starting to be come a bit of a money pit, to the point where i could have rebuilt a defender! So i had to part company.

The value of them did really jump, in 2014. The mk4 ( R100) is now going for a few quid now.
They are now classic cars, and very underrated too! People used to really bad mouth them back in 2012, now the same people are saying Christ they are rare little cars now, and have changed their tune. Sadly most went with the scrappage scheme.

I would love to have a 3rd car as a fast classic, ( mk2 escort with a cosworth in it or a cortina mk5 with a cosworth engine)

If any Rover from the 2000s is likely to become a classic, it's the V8 75 or ZT, because of the rarity value.
As Greeni says, the estate would be my preferrence because it's practical. (Any v8 in grey metallic would do me)
A V8 75 has to be the rarest version though.

These cars represent what could have been, if BMW had wanted a performance version, or if the public had wanted to buy Rovers after the sham sell off to Pheonix. As a classic in the future they may have limited appeal because few may look at them nostalgically. On the other hand, it is the last big Rover ever.
Buy one and enjoy it, to hell with what the market thinks.

Interesting though, never knew they put a Mustang engine in a Rover. I suppose if you're sat in it you don't have to look at it!

I suspect as long as it is looked after and dosnt rust to bits you wont loose any money, the engine is a big lazy lump so not stressed. If you like it and its on the money go for it.

Alternatively if you want a British V8 Jaguar S types are surprisingly affordable and this one allegedly only has 19k miles

Looks just a perfect model to me for Hyacinth's Richard from Keeping Up Appearances. Albeit with a bit different engine to stay within their budget. If with this particular engine, I'm dying to see Hyacinth's face when Richard takes off.

I really like that! I agree it may be a risk as an investment but it would be fun to own and drive and I bet it would be a comfy place to park your bum after a hard day at work!

Reminds me of my Dad's dark grey Jaguar XJ which I could have bought at mates rates but I needed all my dosh to run the Landy!

Buy it if you can!
