Portugal 2010 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 DCPU Keswick Green
How many ...
...HP does the Defender has? is it 122 or 140 ?

I've been having a discussion on Portuguese forum about the Puma engine ...

I have a friend that says that the 2010 model has allready 140 bhp from factory ... Is it true ? I was told that it had 122 like the Td5 used to ...

Any thoughts ? Regards
Joao

just read this on the main LR web site:

"Defender’s refined 2.4 litre diesel produces 122hp or 90kW and a class-leading 360Nm of torque with 90 percent of peak power on tap from less than 2,200rpm to over 4,350rpm." BM52

The latest version of the workshop manual also states that it is 140PS. So, maybe they changed it recently.

Yep, 140ps or 138bhp. It was discussed to a conclusion in a thread on here fairly recently. D300 HSE 110

If you have a look in the .PDF manual which Daniele sent out links to recently it's all over it.
For example:
page 6 in the index: 303-01: Engine - 2.4L Duratorq-TDCi HPCR (103kW/140PS) - Puma
page 292: Engine - 2.4L Duratorq-TDCi HPCR (103kW/140PS) - Puma - Engine
Description and Operation

I spotted 21 references to it in the index alone.

good idea ...

did take a look, and you're right,

but on page 295 it's also written this

it's not important, but I'm just curious... Is it diferent the engine power and power output ? Are both informations correct ? Regards

From TOPIX website for my 2010 Defender 90:

Engine:2.4L DOHC HPCR DSL 140PS PUMA

Are we getting confused between the Engine output measured at the flywheel, and the Vehicle output measured at the wheels or similar.

NB: I'm not an engineer and haven't the foggiest if this is correct or not.

IMHO, the engine itself, being used by Ford as a 140PS power plant is capable and known as a 2.4L - 140 PS unit, however Land-Rover has modified the ECU maps such that it only produces (a typical) 122 PS in our Puma Defenders. Peter,

Typical of LR to state two different outputs!

122bhp AFAIK - not 122PS. Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion.
