Remote Battery (Jump start) Terminals
Looking to install a pair of remote battery terminals to MY15 Puma and trying to assess the best place to locate them. Front of the seat box looks an obvious place but not sure about them being damaged by passenger's feet. I'm also considering under the bonnet on the left hand side near the heater unit but obviously requires more cabling and not sure how easy it will be to route the cable from the battery to under the bonnet.

Looking for advice, ideas and suggestions from anyone who has installed them.

Please don't suggest I fit an Anderson socket as I am using a Noco Boost Lithium starter.

Wouldn’t the door side of the seat box be better? Sheltered from feet and easy to access with the door open Ride like you stole it!!

I’m thinking of the same upgrade. I was thinking in this location, which I think is where Leamreject means.

It’s in a similar place to the battery on a Defender.... “difficult to get to but worth it when you do”

What I want to know is what a Leam is, how how it feels to be rejected by one? Whistle Monsieur Le Grenadier

I've looked at doing this, but not got round to it. Giving other's a jump start from the Defender is a pain, getting access to the battery.
Those Blue Sea terminals seem ideal for the job.
There is very little clearance between the seat box side and the door when it is closed. If you want to fit them there, a recessed panel may be required, so the terminals don't stick out.
-On the top of the seat box, near the seat rails may be an option, but could be in the way for seat adjustment?
Fitting to the front of the seat box would be a straight forward job.

For charging I have made up leads to connect my chargers to a cigar socket inside the rear door, the usual 'Purple wire' connection described on the forum.
I run a 240v extension lead into the back, through the door seal. The charger is completely inside the Defender.
Due to short runs in the winter, it usually needs a top up charge every 2 to 3 weeks.

Have you considered the military option?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/British-Militar...1195.m1851

These are used on the wolf 24v so should be capable enough.

The plug that goes with it is available but you need to do a bit of research to find one that fits, unless you go for the military one but they are pricey.

What size Anderson plugs should be used 175A or 350A?

Htb2 - The SB175 is rated up to 280A, the SB350 up to 500A. I believe the starter motor on a 2.4tdci is rated at 300A so theoretically you need the SB350. In reality you are often only helping out the vehicle battery when jump starting, and that only momentarily. I made up jump leads with an SB175 and good heavy cable and have never had any trouble. I've seen a lot of commercial offerings built the same way. SB350 is a very large connector and not therefore very convenient if you don't have to use it.

Apologies to discomog, who said no Anderson connectors!

Thanks SWT. That was my thoughts as well, but thought better check. Should have a made up set of short leads and one 175 anderson connector in the sheds somewhere. Just need to make up a new set of jump leads to mate to the other half of the anderson.
