United Kingdom 2008 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 CSW Zambezi Silver
The last wave!
Reluctantly, after 22 years of green oval badged vehicles on the drive, I’ve parted with the 110 and bought a Ssangyong Rexton. The 110 was due its ten year service in May next year to the tune of around £600, and of course the tax is about £530. Tax on the Rexton is about half the LR cost, and its bags more comfortable and more economical - and I’m not getting any younger! The bhp is about half as much again as is the torque, and the unconditional five year warranty is another plus until January 2022. So if anyone is after a very tidy 2008 110 csw it might be worth having a look at the David Hendry Cars website at Malmesbury. All the best Ian One wife - livid

I take it its this one Ian? http://www.dhcars.co.uk/used/land-rover/de...hire/95372

I agree with all your reasons for swapping, but I'm sure your new vehicle will only have 50% of the character. I'm sure you'll be back Thumbs Up 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone

I'd rather chew my own arm off than get one of those Ssangyong things... they make far too much sense Rolling with laughter

Yep, that it the one I’ve just sold. Totally agree about the character of the 110, and the Rexton wafting me along definitely won’t be the same. Maybe a 90 at some point if the pennies allow? One wife - livid

I Swapped a Merc E class estate for my Defender. Tax was less than half on that...

However when you factor in depreciation it wipes that out...

The merc was losing £4K to 5K a year Easily. Since I have owned the defender it's probably hardly moved...

Appreciate the Sanyonsongy will be more comfy... but then so would almost anything you swap for. Did you not fancy a few year old Disco?

Good luck with it, resist to wave a Defenders Smile

We tried a couple of a Disco 4s, but weren’t blown away quite honestly in terms of ride and comfort, so left it at that a few months ago. The lease on the second car was up at the beginning of September, so as well as towing the caravan (which I’ve not done yet with the Rexton) the idea is also to combine that function with a runabout. Appreciate the point about depreciation, but we do tend to keep vehicles for a long time - we had the 110 since July 2011 when it had 15k on the clock, and 50k miles later we lost around £5k, so on that basis not desperately worried about that as unless the Rexton has unexpected vices we’ll be hanging on to it. You'll be right Ian, my wife borrowed a school mum mum's Rexton so we could still go to the beach. My money box had shat itself so off we went in the Ssangyong. It did the job just fine and a lot nicer to get around in than the dirty ol defender. Think the only reason I'm hanging on to mine is I hope to stuff it with batteries and an electric motor of two in the hopeful near future. My Defender and travels

Chatting to friends here who hired one in Australia and rated it very highly. Good to have another vote of confidence, thanks. Ian One wife - livid
