you wouldn't be interested in an XS wing vent for this would you? I bought the wrong side, Rolling Eyes Its black and silver but you can spray the silver area black. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

Sorry, Procta, I'm not in the market for XS goodies at present.
XS may be a bit too much bling for the retro look Very Happy

Got the cab back on today. I had some sound deadening and insulation lying around so I treated the cab roof as it was prone to drumming from time to time.

The bonnet went on last week but I need to align it properly as the lock pin is a little off centre. I reckon I can play around with the hinge rubbers to get the small adjustment I need.

I got a seal kit for the leaking clutch master cylinder but the main seal was slightly different to the original and would not fit so I ended up replacing the entire cylinder. I hope to bleed it this week. Unfortunately I managed to spill a little fluid on the brake servo so that now needs a repaint.

The job list is getting a bit shorter and I need to push on now as I have a CVRT (MOT) booked for the 3 weeks time Whistle Whistle

Getting a bit closer to the finish now.

Have the front complete with a new second hand grill panel. The previous one had the key hole for the bonnet lock used on earlier models.

I spent a day and a half trying to fit the windscreen with the help of my lady wife. It was almost in a few times but it wouldn't go in the last few inches. I was using a Britpart screen and seal and the seal kept slipping off the glass as if it was a few millimetres too big.

I was afraid of doing damage so I called in the professionals and two guys fitted the screen yesterday. It took over an hour and four attempts before it went in. I was happy that my method was right but they had the advantage of two large suction cups, one inside and one outside the glass. They were able to get a good grip on the glass and force it down into the seal and frame. The fitters were very dismissive of the Britpart seal saying it was more like plastic than rubber.

The engine started up and ran without any issues so far and tha clutch seems ok but it hasn't left the garage yet. I have a few warning lights on the dash to sort out.

I picked up a used headlining and it has greatly improved the cab as I had to live with the bare metal roof before now.

I need to fit the wipers, door seals, door check straps and covers and a few bits of trim and then a general tidy up.
The headlamps need the beams set and then we should be good for the CVRT (MoT) on Monday week, fingers crossed all goes well.

Out in the fresh air today for the first time since Oct '17.

I went on a short run and everything seemed ok. The brakes and clutch worked well. I have a few electrical niggles to sort out but the main thing is that it is up and running.

Thanks guys for all the positive comments and encouragement.

I went public with the project so that I would have to see it through to completion. The forum has been a great source of information and advice with many knowledgeable contributors.

In hindsight I think I would have been better off to have repaired the original bulkhead and used a different spray shop for the painting. As the replacement bulkhead was galvanised all the grounds had to be filed larger or retapped and anything attaching to it needed fettling or adjustment and it was a bit of a struggle at times.

On the plus side it got me into the garage in the evenings instead of going braindead watching the soaps on tv with the family.

I'm thinking of taking the rear tub off next winter to see what lies beneath but for now I'd like to put up a few miles up on her this summer.

I went for the CVRT (MoT) on Monday and came on a bureaucratic stumbling block.
The renewal date is 17/6 and the test can be done 30 days early and the cert issued. All well and good.
However that is only the case if there is a current cert in force. As mine expired in June '18 they would give me a cert until 17/6 and then I would need to test again for a new cert so I decided to leave 'til June and just do the test once.

To keep the momentum going I got the MTRs fitted to the Wolfs today. Very Happy
