You could try using the end of a small adjustable spanner on the thread tip. I thought when I did mine you could hold the body of the damper on genuine ones which maybe different to those. WeWillWin🇬🇧🇺🇸

Impact wrench easiest, if you haven't got one wrap a rag around the damper and hold it with a pair of stilsons. It will stop it spinning.

You are having difficulty because you are fitting it the wrong way. At least not the way I was shown how to fit one.
I have always fitted the damper the other way round first insert long thread then hold the damper with a griper glove and tighten up the nut once the nut starts to bite it is easy to fully tighten, then pull the damper until you can locate the ‘hole’ end over the bolt bracket, place in the bolt tighten nut job done. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at.. http://www.youtube.com/user/conwy1 |

Right, for anyone else doing this, there is a hex key at the end of the thread, so put an allen key in, and do it up, bobs your uncle. Wish I had bothered to look earlier!
Thanks all Alastair |

Now put a blob of grease in that hex hole and something on the threads, so that when you come to remove it you just have to wipe it out, and not deal with a rusty road griney mess!
