New winter project .. remove the rear quarter light window and replace with a metal one, add an external shower connection and a gas connection and possibly an electrical 12v/usb socket too ...
I’ll update pics on my progress - any advice would be gratefully received !

Looking good Gary, you can use the shower with just the cold ( as we do) by putting a 15mm push on blank. Also got one for a side shower.

Thanks James
Many thanks for that ...
We will be using cold showers only so will do the same as you and blanking off the hot side of the shower unit ... did you get the fittings from Bulfinch as well or did you make your own?

(we are still enjoying the blog and photos by the way ... !) Thumbs Up Poppy - TDCI (Puma) 110XS 2.2 - Camper conversion - see the build here - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56530.html

ok. managed to get some time to fit the new units into the metal quarter-light.
I took a trip to the local plumb base to get some fittings for the internals first, (but I may change the design of the fittings as I progress. )
I”m not the best mechanic by any stretch but was able to drill the holes with out much of an issue and the units look very smart in my opinion ... !

The fittings for the gas side

Then the fittings for the water side - we are only using cold so have added a ‘off valve’ just to prevent any issues if the hot is selected - have added a 90’ bend to the hot side to help save space inside.

The holes drilled with no issues - however as the blank plate is tapered, choosing how best to position both units took a little time - but in the end I chose to have them slightly stepped to put the units in the middle of the blank.

After removing the original glass with no issue after pulling the beading out of the seal centre, it took the best part of an hour juggling the blank back in. WD40, bicycle tyre levers and a wooden picnic knife helped with the task ...sadly it was dark when I finished, but the outside big job has been completed - just to fix all the internal water and gas connections now.

Looking good Gary, used 12mm push fit on ours. Type used in motor homes & cheap, connections aren’t though! Picture from the re-build.

Another one of those little jobs as part of the ongoing tweaking ...

We have the option of using the floor as a table, as it slots into a slot in the units and gives us a nice sized table, but its a bit awkward doing this with the back door closed.
So I added a small table top into the slot which pulls out to give a useful size and pushes in so as not to be in the way but has space to take the jet boil when needed.

A bit off topic perhaps, but those plates are they melamine and used for hot dishes? If so, that may be carcinogenic... Defender 130 HCPU Td5 MY2000

Hi Roadforce
Thats a good point, but the current research found that material is safe for use, apart from microwave use, so no problems !
Thanks for your concern
(a little leaflet came with the set to explain and I took some time to research the issues)

Yep !
Its high quality 5* plastic here all the way !
I’m sure that they wont last the distance as they are quite brittle, and over 30yrs old, but adds a bright cheery splash of colour to our meals in the dreary winter gloom. Poppy - TDCI (Puma) 110XS 2.2 - Camper conversion - see the build here - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56530.html

We decided to take a trip over to France for the festive period and be at home to see the new year in with our friends.
Ferry from Dover to Dunkirk and then travel along the Normandy coast visiting the various beaches and camping as and where we found for 10 days. Cool
The trip was very wet, with 9 full days of rain and only one day of sunshine, the roads were very quiet and easy driving with some lovely camping spots found via ‘France Passion’ and 'park for a night’
Poppy was not in the best of health with a failed passenger wiper that stopped working the day before the trip, an unusual rumble in the lower gears all the trip and one day when the dash went blank and I had to search the forum for info on how to fix it ... after finding nothing wrong, or any duff fuses I went to a garage for help, they pointed me to a landrover specialist and as I stared the engine to go there the dash sprang back into life !! (it seems this is common occourance according to the posts on the subject!)

So the camping side was great with no issues, France has been set up with camper service areas to take waste and fill water tanks all over the country, they provide camper spots on the main attractions and we had some lovely places to park.
The heater was used to keep the condensation down and help dry the coats and boots - and was needed to keep us warm on the one very cold night of -4’c.

Food was in abundance as you would expect with my partner enjoying Muscles at every opportunity.
The Normandy beaches were very thought provoking, the stories and the reality of what happened there were very graphic and emotional, but tastefully presented.

Once home I took on the task of replacing the wiper box and partly removed the dash to accomplish the task, taking 5 hrs in total, but after finishing found the vent selector was not able to go to all positions, which means that this will be another dash removal to investigate why. Big Cry
Ive still got to investigate the rumble from the drive train - as its not apparent where the issue is ... it seemed to start when I was slowing down and used normal engine braking on the way to Dover, and possibly clutch related, as it goes when the clutch peddle is pressed, but mostly the noise is loudest in the lower gears and being less noisy in 5th /6th - but no change in the way it drives or issues selecting gears... ... Shocked
These tasks are all made so much easier by the contributions of the forum and people taking time to explain what they have found and how to do things - so once again many thanks to all the members on here for sharing !! Bow down

so here are some of the snaps from the trip to give you itchy feet for a simple 10 day overland trip !

Looks like you had a fab time in France. Hope to see you both again soon and have a look at the mods you’ve done.
