the breather off the head / rocker cover has evidence of some kind of creamy stuff?
I was really worried until I had a look in the via the oil filler cap and all looks lovely and clean so I presume there's nothing to be worried about..... or should I be.....please say no I'm worrying about too many other things at the moment. ![]() |

exactly which would have me concerned but I can't see any evidence of it in the head area?
I guess its one of those ......monitor it and make sure it doesn't get any worse. ![]() |

Emulsified Oil on the breather is just a sign that you haven't cleaned it in a while, it is caused when the oil vapour mixes with moist air, noting to worry about as long as there is not tons of it!! If you are worried you can get a "snif test kit" to check for HC in your coolent.

thanks Jason.....
![]() I like things nice and clean so if I missed something I'd like to know... joking aside what exactly are we suggesting isn't clean - the oil, the breather (do people clean the breather pipe?) ? thanks |

As i already said .. its normal
![]() It's not that you havent cleaned anything .... you just need to wipe it off whenever you check and see it is building up. Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant. |

Not cleaned, just wiped the old stuff off the breather cap, ever once in a while I remove the breather and clean with degreaser. Although as I say it's only oil vapour and water vapour mixing, and nothing to worry about. Jason. Last edited by jasong4110 on 24th Jan 2013 12:14am. Edited 1 time in total |

If you go looking for problems the pesky Defender gremlins will usually make sure you find something
![]() Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades. Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW. well thats one less thing to worry about....
I went and done it......looking for gremlins ! underside seems to be releasing oil again from the transfer box area ! already had a new input shaft followed by a return visit 4 weeks later for new seals !! cant be sure so I've had a clean up and will review to see how quickly (if at all) all the oil returns. |

i Guess you have used a genuine air filter and the cover is on properly ?
if you look at what the pipe does, it makes sense you may get some oil/water residue, on the one side you have the head/rocker cover - hot oil vapour and the other side you have a cold / damp air from the air filter, where these two meet you are getting a condensation effect. this is exactly where land rover fit the breather heater units for the Scandinavian/Russian markets |
