Nothing anecdotal, fully in line with each and every tire test i read about them. Believe they really are technically of a previous era, the only people I see occasionally rave about them are American pick-up truck drivers, but technically the USA has stopped evolution and progress back in the 1950's. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Very sorry but that a load of tosh, General AT2 is one of the best tyres in snow and the wet.

I've had AT2's in different sizes on three different Land Rovers now - a Freelander, a DII and my 110 and find them excellent. Whilst I haven't driven over the Alps in them, all performed faultlessly in the snow we've had here in the last few years. Darren

Now all laughs aside, we here in Switzerland are generally running on quality rubbers. Facts:
**Most Defenders run on standard Grabber TR or now the new Conti's. **When it comes to mounting specific winter tires, only one choice, the Nokian Hakkaapellita in standard 235/85-16 size. Many like that on the road right now. **The more adventurous which at replacement steer away from the standard summer tires will always replace these by BF Goodrich AT, or for off roading MT. Grabber AT2 or AT, never seen around here. I am in the summer running my original Grabber TR, very satisfactory, right now in winter the Nokians. You never actually own a Defender. So far my new Cooper Discoverer Maxxs (studdable) have been excellent in snow and slush in Munich (deliberately bought them as an alternative to Nokians) unfortunately I've been stuck in the UK this last week but there are tons of snow when I get back home
I'll be in a much better position to judge then... Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

Well, from a Yank who has not stopped evolving, my AT2 do a damn good job in the snow and wet. I am wondering what site you have been looking on to find some hick comments. When it comes to exactness of their tests the good ol swiss and germans have the corner.http://ssl.delti.com/cgi-bin/RDTyreTest.pl...entest.com Besides most Americans run Toyos or wranglers on their trucks, at least where I come from. It might also be that if they do use these tires, the have them studded as they come pre holed for that. ( the reason for the mountain flake?) Your Nokians though would be on mine if I dealt with more snow than we get here and on the slopes. I must say that out of the very few defender drivers here in CH, in comparison to Germany or UK, very very few swap from M+S and put modulars on. Out of the three that I saw today, in the mountains no less on packed snow, none had Nokians and one had what seemed to be bias plys on similar to what you would find on military issue. 2008 Defender 110 60 year Edition (sold unfortunately) IN the hunt for another Puma for the wifey! 2008 Kia Sorento LX 😁 2.5crdi |
