Today has been a very successful day. I feel a bit stupid for not investigating further but I have been getting used to the Range Rover and it's now even more lovely V8.

The around 2250rpm misfire turns out to have been a permanent misfire, I just hadn't tuned into it and as I'm used to comparatively rough diesel engines didn't realise just how smooth a Rover V8 is.

Turns out that for the last few hundred miles I have been driving around on 7 cylinders Embarassed It's probably because it's a 5L that the extra power has masked it. And as I haven't driven it I didn't know what it should have been like.

Anyway I took my dad out in it for the first time since it's been back on the road and he instantly said "That's not right" (it was his daily drive for over 10 years)

To cut an already long story short, after a bit of investigation it turns out that the pin in the connector on No7 injector had pushed out and so the injector wasn't firing. So I stripped a bit of outer sheething away and popped the pin back in and voila - a V8!

Needless to say it's now silky smooth and much, much more torquey so I am a happy bunny! Whistle 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Laughing I must admit I’ve had the same thing Grafty. Embarassed

It’s supprising how a cylinder down in a v8 can go un noticed,
I drove around in my old 109 for weeks on 7, I thought it was running like a dream Cool funnily enough it was also my dad that told me it wasn’t running on 8!
It turned out to be a crack in the distributor cap.

Glad you got it sorted, that will now cost you more at the pump. Laughing Thumbs Up 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

Phew, glad it's not just me!

I'm hoping it will be slightly better on fuel as it's running properly and so possibly less throttle required to make progress. Probably just a pipe dream though Rolling with laughter

grafty I would just put that down to no much experience with the v8, vs some who is. Nothing to be a shamed of, I had to have someone look over my vvc engine, who knew those engines. Thumbs Up Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

Now that the defender is reliable (about 2000 trouble free miles) since the rebuild then work can restart on the Range Rover. All the fun stuff can happen now so watch this space!

Here is pic on the way home from the pub the other evening Cool
