Blimey Buffalo that is a name from the past! It has certainly provoked some memories in me

Going back a few err years read decades. Did some interesting tests on Buffalo gear. These were in the days of Hamish having the Buffalo kit made up by Hutch of Mountain Equipment in Glossop. Now proper environmental test chambers for testing clothing as such were not readily available.
The sleeping bags were a hideous pink colour and tulip shaped so impossible to move legs independent of each other as lower leg room was so restricted They did their job well.

Wow! Talk about memories, I had totally forgotten about Mountain Equipment in Glossop, you are going back a good few years , sorry decades. Mountain Equipment that’s where I first discovered Buffalo clothing. I also bought a Buffalo sleeping bag (which I have still got} though mine was green not pink. It was one of those mummy shaped things but warm, in fact I used it the first weekend I bought it to bivouac at the bottom of the downfall at Kinder with a few mates, that was in the month of January in the early nineties and though it was 10 below that sleeping bag worked a treat. Must admit though over the years I have gone soft I doubt whether I could bivouac now at the downfall in -10. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

+1 for Paramo Cascada

I use them for winter hillwalking with a thin pair of long johns under. Perfect. Long zips (or studs, the trousers have both) allow for ventilation. Warm for winter (too warm for summer for me). Great cold-weather walking trousers.

Washed frequently with Nikwax, and maybe the off re-proof and they last for years Thumbs Up

I have some of their salopettes for alpine routes (much colder) too.

The Jackets (Aspira) also great, Hood big enough to wear a climbing helmet... Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

Mark i cant remember, they were some trial trousers prior to isolation kit IIRC. so not ideal for your needs as insulated too.

Buffalo, yep tested that 3mths in a tent where warmest was -27deg C that year.

Sorry edited to say - living out of tents! not just 3mths in a tent! Shocked Cheers

Many thanks for all the comments and recolections of pers use. Have ordered a pair of the Cascada2 trs. Should be here tomorrow. So hopefully it'll still be cold/wet enough on Sat to wear them when I'm out and about instructing. 110 D250 SE HT

QUick update

Trs arrived, very well made and fit perfectly. The side zips and internal poppers allow for a wide variation of ventilation.

I was teaching offroading on Sat at Xtreme Offroad. Weather was misty and cold, firstly i rode my Polaris RZR 20 miles to work Rolling with laughter , but i was warm and toasty, even with no door tops or windscreen. Setting up for the days lessons, trousers kept me nice and warm. Whilst teaching, jumping in and out of the vehicles was fine. But as the temps rose through the day there were times when I was a tad warm but as soon as the zips were opened I cooled down to a comfortable temperature.

Overal Verdict

Love them, Wish I'd purchased them ages ago. Well worth the money. But not sure that they will cope with the aggressive nature of offroading. If only Paramo made the same trousers but with a more hard wearing outer shell then they'd be perfect. 110 D250 SE HT

In another five years providing you Nickwax them you will still be thanking having bought them. In twenty years time like me you will think why I did not buy these all those years ago instead of those fashionable things like Berghaus, Craghopers, etc, and the other outdoor crap available. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..
