just the little screws and fittings for the lights, then I can move on towards the electrical stuff. Smile I do want to install a rev counter, and I may install some after market gauges somewhere, not sure if I want to move the radio to the roof, or install the gauges up there. When I do the head line change over. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

well on Saturday my work mate came over to help me with the tappets to see if they are the cause of this dodgy ticking noise.
Turns out that they were miles out! My work mate is more experienced with feeler gauges than me so he showed me what to look for. So we did them together and rechecked them yesterday to make sure all is well, just a slight tweak was needed.
I am starting to think that I may have a blow on the exhaust or inlet manifold, one of the lads may have confirmed my thoughts in another thread. So that looks like a repair to do.
Took it to work since the decat and service, she really does pull now, but I think we may still be down on the power, if I have a leak on the head side of things.
Gives me an excuse to give the inlet and intercooler a clean out.
I think I will have a look at changing the lights too, going to watch a video 1st on how to do it, I don't want to trifle with the beam! Just want to switch the light its self.
Also I have my brake upgrade to go on too, just waiting on my dad getting back from hols so that we can move on, ( he has experience with the brakes on these, I don't so I am not going to dive in, with these not been like other cars. Smile Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

What lights will you be getting? I got the Wipac crystals and they made a good improvement over standard with the upgraded loom..
Will you be changing the intercooler or giving it a good clean out? I fancy changing mine.. only because I like shiny things Embarassed I'd keep mine standard looking though with the Allisport upgraded one... I don't want to be cutting bits off to make one fit.
If you have to take the manifold off you could fit a EGT gauge/sensor whilst you're at it... Wink 1993 200Tdi Defender 90

I will just give it a full blown clean out, along with the inlet. Not really a fan of modifying stuff to fit upgraded items. causes more of a pain than its worth.
The lights are not wipac, they are some other make. quality is so so, But they were 30 quid so I cannot complain.
I am planning on fitting some gauges, but I have had some right trouble in the past to get sensors and fittings for the kseries engine. So I am a little unsure at the moment on what to do in that area, as I am not sure how easy I can just drop an adapter in to this engine. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

I think EGT sensors are easier to fit to the 300tdi manifold as you have a removable plate you can attach the sensor to..EGR blanking plate... and the turbo/boost gauge can be connected via a T piece into the waste gate pipe..
I have ordered a dual EGT/Boost gauge to replace my boost gauge so once fitted (which could take me a while) you can have the other if you want. 1993 200Tdi Defender 90

I will keep the offer in mind, Once i start with the interior side of things. Got miles to go yet before i even look at gauges sadly. I have to try and get the car water tight, the rain still comes behind the new seals sadly. Sad So looks like the next move could be a set of new door hinges. Due to the weather lookin on the verge of turning. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

well looks like I have found out why its " tapping" All I can say is if people cannot be arsed to do a job properly then don't waste your time. This is the second item I have found now like this!
300TDi CSW Phil tipped me off about the manifold side, as I was starting to think the same thing, so I thought with the weather been nice, I will pop the bonnet and have a look, The manifold gasket is blowing alright, the manifold is bloody slack!!! I thought just for daftness to check the nuts, and guess what two were slack!! there is another one slack, as its still blowing, but not as bad now. I will have to strip the inlet off to get access, so i am just going to replace the gasket while the inlets off.
Really does Censored me off! the last job we found cost me 45 quid a week in diesel! I lost well close to 200 to 300 quid on fuel alone due to some arse wipe not doing the clips up on the rubber hose on the fuel neck!
So this poor sweet heart has had allsorts of monkeys messing about with her! Evil or Very Mad Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

yesterday me and my work mate pushed on a little, he came over to do some drilling out of some rusted bolts. Which only took five mins.

He has been dying to get into the back door side of things since I showed him the state of the snapped screws inside.
So yesterday we had a look to see what the story was, The door skin is damaged with due to the wiper motor not been secured, which me and my dad did sort out, when we 1st got her.
So we stripped the rear door down,

The door frame is cracked in places so my work mate is going to clean that down and weld it, and we are going to make a few plates up to add some strength where the wiper motor is, due to the damage.
I said lets get the replacement door loom installed, so we did. Took us about 30 mins to do, as we had to make a new earth, we ended up putting a hole through the door Embarassed But we can just seal that up anyway, plus the wheel is in the way anyway.
We did try to see about getting the rear wiper system up and running, but looks like we will have to go a bit further with that electrics, We suspect the motors dead. But we want to make sure.
Even though its small progress looking at it, but in away its a major big one. Smile As we now know what we are dealing with and what the story is. Plus I know now that the loom is brand new now and fitted properly.
Also my bull bar is re drilled now so that's more secure at the front now, it was only bolted on with the bumper bolts.
( with the new bumper been a few mill smaller, than the original one) The bolt holes at the front would have gone into the edge sadly. So we have had to set back the holes further. Now its all nice and strong Very Happy My dad though had the bolts bolts hidden! I recon he was looking at having a go when I wasn't there! They were not where I had them!! he can jump into jobs when I am not there and things can go tits up too, due to him not thinking. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

yeah it is clayton, I think this is the worst part of the landy sadly, the rear door card looks a right hash!
Not to mention the ugly spare wheel too! But its great though to see some progress finally.
here is an update of some photos,

Anyway we had a break in the rain on Saturday so I pressed on with the manifold gasket, I will let you see for you selves on this one Shocked

every one of the studs came out Sad I spent some time trying to free the nuts off a few but we were pushing for time, as the rain had started again, plus the nights are starting to close in quicker now.

old unit off, no the wonder though it was "tapping"

I took my time and made sure everything was tight, everything came off way to easy!
I think I might of over did it with the inlet nut.
After putting everything back together, I started her up just to make sure all was well.
I tell you what fellas/ ladies, she sounds a hell of a lot better on tick over! in fact she is worlds a part from the landy I bought back in December!
I took her out for a test drive, and we are well quicker and quieter too! I have power now in all the gears! she is no where near as noisy at 60 now as she used to be! Engine sounds like pure perfection now!
I think I may be 30mph faster than I was, when I bought her, 50 was about the limit, with the performance and with the steering. Now I can power up to about 60 with out any trouble now, and its miles happier too on doing so.
Got say this though, you can hear that turbo spool with that ITG filter on Laughing
With the decat and the exhaust manifold leak fixed, it does rev a lot freely now, so that explains why my dads 200 had more get up and go. Mine wasn't very well Sad Still loads to do of course but its been a massive miles stone i have reached in the last few weeks with her, With what i have done. I have the brakes to go on, and the head lights, ( still waiting on parts for the head lights) i will see what i have to pay off 1st, and i think i may buy the spare wheel swing way. Also i do want to look at wheels too at some point this year. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

Wow... Lots of progress... good job with the manifold... Is it a real pain to take everything off to remove it?
I recommend the spare wheel carrier instead of having all that weight on the back door.. My back door is quieter since fitting the swing away as it doesn't bang about over bumps etc..
Your back door looks lots better without the sticky tape Thumbs Up 1993 200Tdi Defender 90

its quite an easy job to be fare, all i did was remove the air box pipe coming from the turbo, and the intercooler pipe, also un bolted the dip stick, which was a bit of a pain with the alternator. But apart from that everything went smoothly. Only thing that bites is when the studs wind out too. What a pain in the arse that was to try and free them off the nuts! Even locking two at one end to crack them off was a no go on some of them.
The inlet looks very clean for some reason, so i left it a lone.
yeah looks miles better doesn't it with out the bodged sticky tape. I think the swing away is going to be the next thing when the door is fixed and the electrics are tested. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back
