More importantly than the jaw width is how far the jaws will open to enable the assembly to be pressed together |

I tend to use a decent F or G clamp with sockets. That way I can lay the rest of the shaft on the bench. Plus you could take it with you on the road. And before I remove, I warm the whole lot up gently and then when it cools the seal is usually broken and the whole lot moves easily with a bit of oil. 2009 2.4TDCi XS Utility Wagon.
