I do agree to that.
If we all like the same gear we would have extreme trouble finding your own vehicle at a Land Rover event. Glen "Rafiki" 2007 110 STW - Rolling rebuild. |

Has any one fitted a shadow awning to An Alu cab pop roof with a NAS style front windscreen protection bar.... I’m sure it can be done but just want to have a look at any pictures of how it has been done... Building a 110 expedition vehicle, pictures can be found: @steve_overland on Insta.

Great input on all the awning options.
The alu cab seems to be the option that is drawing my attention. I notice they now sell the side panels. Has anyone purchased these? Are they any good? Do they close/attach properly or are there gaps? Its been a couple of years since some of the previous posts. Are there now any other options or preferences? |

We have the Tuff Track H2 awning for the last couple of years and found it works very well.
It is not self supporting as has polls and pegs, but its very robust when up. It comes with 6 sides that are included in the price, and have zipped doors, windows and mosquito nets fitted as standard. Two sides fit inside the awing along the side of the vehicle if needed, and the awning doors line up with the vehicle doors for ease of use. It can be erected by one person in light winds with practice, and is very waterproof in heavy rain. We are happy with the awing and have used it often all over europe in a wide range of conditions. I run a fox wing, put it up on my own and at nearly 10years old is waterproof and as new condition. It's used approx 4 weeks solid and 8 further three day trips a year.
We had an alucab one on our Toyota in Namibia earlier this month. Loved the setup and cover for it is really robust, but size on side and packing away, not for me I am afraid. Cheers James 110 XS Utility 130 Puma Station wagon/camper (in the making) 90 Puma Hardtop |

We have an AluCab awning attached to the AluCab on the 110. Great piece of kit The panels are a bit bulky when packed away so they're probably only worthwhile if you wanted a truly private space outside of the vehicle or protection from the elements. However, they're very easy to attach to the awning. The only issue is that you have to weigh down the panels that have a loose end, where there's nothing on the vehicle to attach them to. There's also a lot of loose material at the bottom edges of them (a kind of PVC bottom edge) that flaps around. In a campsite for one night they're a faff but if you were staying put and could take a minute to get everything just so I'd say they're worthwhile. By no means are they perfect but they're pretty decent Charlie

Thanks Wyvern, JST and Baron. Great options.
Doing long trips isn't on my radar quite yet but I often need shelter from the rain for a couple of hours whilst out and about and then occasionally need overnight accommodation. Whats sounded great about the alu cab (and other similar style awnings) is the rapid deployment i.e why not put it out if it only takes a few mins!! I would like to be able to extend that to a decent-ish overnight (or two) camp option. Need to be pretty weather proof and mozzy proof. Putting on any side panels is going to be a bit of a faff I suppose. Zips to me sound Mozzy and draught proof but it sounds like the alu cab have missed a trick here if they only do side that Velcro on as they surely cant be draught or mozzie proof 😳😩🤯. Hmmm. I might light a fire and have another fink.... NEED: easy deployable fox wing style awning with proper draught proof and mozzie proof sides.... |

Yep that’s the main problem I have with the AluCab awning sides - they all fit together well but they don’t attach to the sides of the vehicle! So the ends are effectively loose!!! Mostly weatherproof but not insect proof. Needs some minor improvements

And nothing at all (???) to fit under the vehicle itself? To stop wind blowing under the vehicle and st into the ‘tent’?
See pics (of your pucs) to see where I am referring to. |

Yes I know! Something else they didn’t think of. Trying to find an elegant solution to the problem but the best at the moment is just one of those multicoloured beach wind barriers Charlie

Apologies but my pictures didn't load up for some reason.
The standard landrover pop up tent we bought for our landrover disco a couple of years ago has the panels the fit under the sides and rear bumper of the vehicle itself. Its odd that alu cab haven't included this basic feature into their panels. I’ll drop them a line and see if they are interested in making the improvements and being a bit more joined up. They must have a good reason as they seem to be a dedicated company. |
