What have I Broken!
So I need to move the alpine sub to the rear cubby. Clip the connector off, made up an extension, all soldered etc, connected all up and no bass! One thing I noticed when I clipped the connector off I heard a little 'click' like a fuse going from the centre of the dash. Have I blown something in the headunit? The engine was off. All else is working as before but I am stumped. Andy

Did you not disconnect the battery before doing electrical work?

Ooops. Laughing
Yes, most likely a fuse.
Possibly down to the blue 12v rmte or the amp main fuse, just check them and see what is what.
The click definitely sounds like a short or fuse blowing.

If your HU is working and not the bass that would suggest the amp primary power supply.
Fuse should be near the battery .inline.

Oh forgot to mention, with the fuses if for any reason you cannot physically see they are in-tact or blown continuity check them with a multimeter the amp fuse is usually an AGU or AFS fuse.
Normally you can fairly easily see.
If it's the HU usually a standard blade fuse or mini blade.

You should have any issues finding a blown fuse.

You are correct, lost the 12v from the purple brown feed into the amp connector, but where is the fuse, that's the next issue!!

Thumbs Up Andy

Gave up! I just took a new 12v battery feed from my blue sea fuse box. That ok? Andy

Yeah, that's fine so long as the cable and fuse is rated higher current than the Amp.

Amp powers fuse should be nearest the battery at least for a passive set up.
On an active amp sometimes on the rear of the unit.

But yes, fuse could be behind the dash.

A case of tracing the wiring, if it's a lower draw Amp and configured as more plug and play then it could well be different.

Either way, so long as cable is rated high enough and fused adequately you'll be fine. Thumbs Up

Well I could trace no more, had the entire dash out!

All working now with the new feed, what size of fuse would you think for this feed mate? Andy

What sub / amp are you running? I'm guessing active set up?

I can look it up for you. Thumbs Up

I'd go for 10 gauge cable and a 20A fuse. I prefer ANL fuse holders and fuses over AGU.
More reliable, less problematic.
