I painted my rear crossmember with gloss black smoothright when I re powder coated my NAS step 3 years ago still looks as good as new. 2005 Td5 90 XS

Bilthamber Epoxy mastic, POR 15 or KBS Rustseal would be my choice with something like KBS diamond finish clear as a top coat to keep it UV stable and retain a high sheen for your requirements.

I have used POR15 quite extensively, and it's a good product, key is proper prep of the metal surface, using their Cleaner/De-greaser and Metal Prep products. You can't just wire brush off rust and dirt and paint it on and expect lasting results..
Ultimately, a catalyzed product (epoxy primer) will outperform anything from a rattle can, or ready to use can for a base coat. It does require very thorough prep, and a proper top coat, more time and cost. I used a PPG product DP90 Epoxy Primer, then trim black finish on top. it's a Landrover thing... my renovation thread: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic40792.html |

I absolutely recommend Buzzweld 's range of products. We use them ourselves
Craig is a really helpful chap and absolutely dedicated to getting his brand out there. I'd suggest "zero-prep" followed by a coat or two of "CIO" chassis in one. |

I think for the exterior of the rear crossmember i would just use any off the shelf gloss black finish in aerosol form.
The chassis inc rear crossmember rots from the inside out, so what ever you stick on the external face is just cosmetic. The most important thing is to protect the inside. |

I'll have a look into buzzweld products. I have a load of dinatrol rust converter which I was going to use first. My crossmember isn't too bad, but is showing signs of age now (2009) |

A coat of Buzzweld RCP followed by a couple of coats of CIO. 2003 Defender 90 Td5 CSW Belize Green - "Betty"
