130 Camper Conversion
Fairly busy weekend on the 130, Randy, as the wife has decided. 130 ex utility vehicle with a 300tdi and R380 and a Quadtech box on the back. There's much more to come in the future but this weekend saw the start of the journey.

First thing to go on was a 2.5m square ARB awning, we spent a long time looking at various makes but at the end of the day the long term reviews swung it in favour of ARB. We've mounted it on the plates that did support the roof rack. Brilliant bit of kit and certainly the quality matches the reviews we've read.

After that I spent a frustrating day trying to sort out bits and bobs and largely failing due to finding other things needed doing first. My better half on the other hand transformed the seats including fitting heated seat pads.

Next weekend I'm on my own and since the front axle swivels are leaking they are getting an overhaul together with converting to vented discs and new wheel bearings whilst it's all in bits.

Thanks, massive impulse purchase as my wife swore blind she wouldn't allow another Defender then decided we should have this one as soon as we saw it. Trial camp in a couple of weeks time and then onto greater things, in particular making the roof of the Quadtech lift.

Thanks all. Plenty more to come, new front brakes including calipers arrived from Advanced Factors today (upgrading to vented, hopefully the calipers will fit in as there seem to be some early axles where they don't) together with a pack of Silent Coat to hopefully make things a bit more civilised.

Cheers. Another busy weekend, front drivers swivel was leaking badly so spent most of my time doing that, since I was in there anyway I've changed the Railko and bottom bearing. At the same time I changed the wheel bearings for good measure so I know that side is (should be..) sorted for the foreseeable. The brakes were pretty poor when we picked it up so we're in line for replacement. I've also swapped them over to vented, I've experienced brake fade and am in no hurry to see it again so it seemed worthwhile. Old caliper was in a pretty sorry state.

My better half has fitted silent coat to all the exposed areas of the cab in readiness for an Exmoor Trim carpet set. Quite surprised how much it has deadened the sound in the cab.

Other side of the front axle for me next weekend together with fitting a 12v outlet ahead of our first trial camp on the 16th.

Are you planning to use the space under the rear seat box?

I've got my diesel heater mounted under there and some extra storage stuff.

Do you mean under the driver's? I've been wondering what to keep in there, diesel heater is an interesting idea! it's got a locker at the back that I had thought about using for a heater but it's perfect jerry can size so a bit loath to lose it.

Ah, no rear seat for me, it's a truck cab so just the two seat boxes.

Yesterday my wife had the day off so set to on fitting the Exmoor Trim premium carpet set, after a few hours of frustration she gave up. Mixed bag this, great quality carpet but offset by a couple of issues. I've had days where nothing goes right so when I got home we set to getting it in.
First issue was the double sided tape that they supply, utterly useless so a trip to Toolstation for spray adhesive put that right. Second issue I'm not sure if with us or them. I ordered the R380 set as that is what ours has been converted to. The fit of the footwell area carpets is great. The fit of the seat box pieces was poor. The cut outs for the boxes was off which I'm assuming is due to changes through the years but I was surprised that the carpet had so much slack on length. That said once it was in the finish was pretty good so all in I'm happy.

Progress will slow down a lot soon to allow the bank account to recover!
