diesel fuel filter replacement questions
Hi
Got a couple of questions

On my 1999 TD5 110 the drain valve has a couple of wires coming out of it to a plug and socket affair.I'm assuming this is for the water sensor. How do I get them apart? is is just a case of a screwdriver between the join? There is a push in clip but pushing in and trying to pull apart doesn't do much.

On my 2004 TD5 110 there aren't any cables just a screw in drain tap. I've removed and cleaned that but next problem is that the tap doesn't fit into the bottom of the new filter. The threaded end isn't the same diameter as the hole in bottom of the diesel filter. Does the drain tap screw into another bit that screws into the filter? Don't think this filter has been changed in god knows how long.

Probably dirt in the plug's clip on. Spray some cleaner or blast it with compressed air then try the push in pull apart thing.

Fot the 04 are you sure you have the correct filter? The Tdi filter looks exactly the same but has a smaller screw in on the bottom. 2010 Range Rover MkIII Autobiography Super Charged (Idris)

o.k. will try the cleaner tonight. Effie the 2004 TD5 is definitely a TD5 Smile) The local land rover parts distributor checked the TD5 drain plug fitted the flavour of fuel filter they sell ( 1 box=air, oil and diesel filters). Manged to get the old one off last night. god knows ho long its been on there, was full of crap and rusted to hell, even round the rubber seal at the top. As you suggested perhaps the filter that was on it came from a non TD5.

Minor annoying thing now is that when I try and lock the fuel guard over the filter, the silly little clip that it locks into has disintegrated so I need anther one Sigh! at least its small stuff.

You could just drill a hole below the spring tab thingy and put a small bolt with a wing nut on it until you can source a new part??? driving without the shield for any length of time is not the best idea but you might to be okay on dry pavement. 2010 Range Rover MkIII Autobiography Super Charged (Idris)

Think I'll have to do some drilling. You need to purchase WKT100010 which is the back plate of the filter cover ..... you can't buy the clip by itself. The cover is ~£14 + VAT!!

Ill cobble something together Santa - 1977 Series 3 - new chassis, tub, disc brakes,SU Carb

JUST in case you don't know...l am sure you will.

Fill the new filter with diesel if possible before you fit it.
Then turn on the ignition (don't start it) and quickly press the gas pedal to the floor five times, starting the process before the ECU light goes out.

This puts the fuel system into purge mode and you will hear the fuel pump running/stopping. There will be a red light flashing on the dash. Leave it until the red light stops flashing (about five minutes) Then turn off the ignition.

After that just drive as normal.
