Queens Park damage after Range Rover's trail of destruction
Odd story...

WORK has begun to repair the thousands of pounds worth of damage caused to Queens Park by yobs in a 4X4 vehicle.

The £60,000 white Range Rover Sport vehicle — which was left abandoned in the Sunken Garden in the park on Wednesday night — has now been impounded by cops who are still investigating whether it is a stolen vehicle.

Thugs had driven the car over a high bank at the park’s Chorley New Road car park and into the park, before careering around the historic site and causing a large amount of damage.

Tyre tracks suggest the vehicle got lodged in the Sunken Garden, forcing the driver and any accomplices to flee the scene and leave it there.

The bungling yobs then tried to have the car recovered by a private firm on Thursday morning but their efforts were blocked by council staff.

Work to restore the park — which recently underwent a £7 million refurbishment — has already begun, with grounds maintenance staff clearing debris from the land and repairing some of the pathways in the bottom of the famous Sunken Garden.

Greater Manchester Police officers arrived at Queens Park at about 4pm yesterday and removed the car from the scene — with investigations into the incident ongoing.

A spokesman for the force said: “We have recovered the Range Rover vehicle and our officers are still investigating whether it is a stolen vehicle and attempting to locate the car’s owner.

“We are treating this case as criminal damage and while no arrests have been made at this point, our investigations are ongoing.”

it is not yet known how long the repair work on the park will take and it will be subject to factors such as the weather — but council chiefs are aiming to get everything under way as soon as possible.

A spokesman said: “We are assessing the damage and some repairs to the path in the bottom of the sunken garden have already been undertaken, and the debris cleared by grounds maintenance staff. We are hoping to get contractors to start to re-level the ground and re-turf the damaged area in the sunken garden next week, weather permitting.”

not sure if it's stolen ?

I have my own thoughts on this but will keep them to myself......will be interesting to see how this unfolds. You'd have thought someone would notice pretty quickly if their £60k Range Rover disappeared?

My thoughts are rich kids in mummy or daddy’s Rangie, thinking they would have a spiffing time and a ‘larf’ while parents are holidaying. That’s why they tried to have it recovered before they get back.

Now the parents will be very vexed and rather huffy when they come home, and Tarquin, Arlington or Ottila Flutie will probably have their young Harrods accounts stopped for a weekend. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

Never seen a RRS or a FFRR here with any other than 100% road tires. Wonder if more able tires are even an option?
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Watching that make me wonder if they know about low range locked diffs and let it just pull its self out, my Old Classic Rangie pulled my 24' loaded caravan out of a field that turned into a swamp overnight, the mud was that deep even the diffs were leaving a trail. Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place,
so it doesn't take much to Censored us off.

If it were stolen and the thieves fled, why would they lock the car? (Mirrors are folded in)

I also think this is a rich kid taking a family car for a spin with mates and ran out of talent. 2016 D4 HSE

Was at the LRE Scotland its a Franchise and the Instructor we had said that to work for the Scottish one you had to have experience ideally as a Ghilly, 4x4 Competitor or similar real world 4x4 experience where as other centers that are 100% LR you didn't need any experience as they trained you in house to Lantra or similar but since its in house your on their ' Managed' tracks !!!!
