Got to say that I am also a CCC fanboi. Have used many tyres and they really do perform excellently n all conditions. Other tyres are perhaps better at certain aspects but as an allrounder I reckon it takes some beating. The only critism of them (and I think the real reason they are not popular) is that they are very UN-macho looking tyres. Big flat slab like side walls and a very flat, non-aggressive looking tread, don't do anything for that "roughty toughty Offroader" look.

Switzerland 2009 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 SVX Station Wagon Santorini Black
When a good year ago due to on here well discussed circumstances I had to buy a new set of summer wheels and tires for the SVX, I decided to get new GG TR again. Actually had to involve a very cooperative Continental Tires Germany (owners of the GG brand), as the GG TR is not available in Switzerland anymore. Conti arranged a special import into Switzerland for my 4 new TRs. Kudos to them for doing that. Thumbs Up
This is all very personal, but I do not like the look of the Contis, the GG TR looks a much more classical tire matching the Defender cube design.
I am driving 100% on road of course, and never had any problem with the GGs in 7 years now. That is as long as I will remember that I am moving along a mass of minimum 2200KM. Guess any tire will have problems with such a mass if it comes to extreme maneuvers.
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

All good with CCC here.
Not saying there wouldn't be better tyres for particular conditions, but for normal day to day driving, I reckon they're pretty good.

Are we talking about Continental Cross Tracs or a different Conti??? Had no issues with Conti Cross Tracs on my 1984 110. But only drove it about 500 miles on them before fitting Nokian winter tyres which I would highly recommend only once did they let go and that was in the Scottish borders coming down a steep hill on tarmac and hitting a slab of 3inch ice due to the floods even then it was all controlled .

Thanks guys for all your replies.

Maybe its my driving style, although I definitely don't drive the Defenders hard. But having the luxury of being able to compare them with the BFG's, I seem to be finding them substandard when driving on tarmac. The conditions have been damp and the small lanes and even the A roads around us are pretty mucky, so maybe it is just the conditions, temperature and the harder compound leading to a less satisfactory drive.
I can't comment on their ability in real off road conditions as they haven't been used on anything worse than forest tracks.

Only time will tell.....
Cheers,
Leon.

No, Continental CrossContact AT.

Fitted to Defender for the last few years as the default tyre on alloy wheels.

They seem quite Marmite tyres, some people rave about them (including in some magazines) and some people hate them. There does seem to be a consensus that the sidewalls aren't as tough as some.

Cupboard cheers that's what I meant when I say Cross track didn't realise the t was Cross Contact. I have them for my 110 no issues but as said only ran them 500miles as been on my winter tyres.
