15" or 16" Rims for a 110 doublecab.
Hi All, I am thinking of changing the boost alloys on my 110 for modular with mud tyres. Can anyone shed any light or thoughts on whether to use 15x10 or 16x8?
Thanks in advance,
Matt.

Most Defenders use 16" rims so they're more "standard".
10" wide rims you'll be looking at flotations sizes only I'd have thought? For most purposes narrower tyres will get you further.

You can happily fit mud tyres to Boost alloys and save yourself a packet in buying new wheels if you're so inclined. 235/85, 255/85, 265/75 and at a push though not recommended 285/75 tyres all fit. 235s (fitted as standard) give you the best choice and pricing, 265s are the same diameter but are wider and were fitted to the NAS ones, 255s will give you the best ground clearance.

I know very little about 15" tyres.

As you get wider you need a bigger offset to keep the steering lock. As the tyres stick out further more mud gets splattered around, and too wide you need to fit larger wheel arches to stay legal. All things are possible, it's whether the extra effort gains you anything that's valuable to you.

What are you using the Defender for?

Thanks very much for taking the time to reply 'Cupboard'. The 110 gets used both on and off road but more green lanes than anything extreme! To be honest whilst I appreciate that 235s are the standard and most sensible option I'm looking for a chunkier look so possibly 285s but I don't want to make any expensive mistakes so all advice and experience welcome! Thanks again, Matt.

A decent set of all terrains will get you down the vast majority of greenlanes. There are some "extreme" lanes but they're few and far between and in general if you need anything more than an AT the lane isn't in a condition that it should be driven in.

As for looks, well that's down to you Smile You can probably guess my preferences are narrow Laughing
