Where the roof changes angle on my Defender, there's a small crack. I think that's where water is coming in because the inside of the roof gets wet if you squirt it with a pressure washer, either way it's not going to help anything.
I've been pouring Captain Tolley's in, and it keeps just disappearing. Poked it yesterday and noticed how much movement there is on it, looks like one of the welds has come loose. ![]() Do I need to worry about a loss in strength, or do I just keep pouring sealant in? |

A pressure washer will potentially make leaks worse. If that were mine I'd stop pressure washing, wait for the weather to warm up so the area can dry out, seal and paint. What makes you think a weld has failed? Steve.

Because when I poke it the top layer wiggles and the bottom layer doesn't, but if I poke other areas the whole lot wiggles together.
I've been having small puddles forming in the back when it rains and the wind is in the wrong direction, so I was looking for a leak whilst cleaning it. First time I've washed up there since buying it in 2014 ![]() The roof inside was dry when I started washing and wet when I finished. |

My roof had the same problem. So much fun every time. My headliner kept splashing rainwater onto my lap every time I took a turn.

If it's out of warranty then as a DIY fix I'd do what I suggested earlier with the addition of repairing suspected failed welds with blind pop rivets. Steve. Captain Tolleys is only good for very fine cracks, looks like you need a mastic that you can paint over.As said before, Sikaflex or Tigerseal,or any non-silicon based bathroom sealant.
Run 2 lines of masking tape either side of the joint, squeeze in the sealant and finish off with your wet thumb for an undetectable finish. If you removed the interior trim can you see where the water is coming in!! Pov.spec,ftw. 2006, 110,TD5. |

Might borrow a little squirt of white Sikaflex from work and put some weights on it whilst it goes off then.
So long as that's not a structural thing that's going to come back and bite me! Would a rivet work? I thought there was a crossmember under it where the headliner attaches but I might be wrong. Often am. |
