Cheers Rog!
You will note that I did not cover the rear side's! I wanted to still see some GREEN when I looked into the rear! ![]() Seriously, the sound damping of the wheel arch area seemed to also take away the 'tin' zing sound when I tapped the sides, so it was something I also felt was not necessary! I need to get the front done now! ![]() |

Quite right too Pete, it is only a thin strip of Green anyhoo, not like the wide expanse of an HT panel... ![]() A lot more fiddly to do the front end I suppose and time consuming... ![]() Are you going to bother with the bonnet at all... ![]() ![]() The GREEN One... I used Acetone to clean the bare metal floor before the Dynamat, and again on the Dynamat before laying the Quadzero MLV. And then my Hoover to clean the carpet! ![]() |

Good job. I am considering doing mine as well.
Is it really that much quieter? |

Was going to ask if you were intending on doing the front.
What about the bonnet? How many hours do you estimate to get this done? a full day of work? |

I will indeed be doing the front and the seat base in the same way.
The bonnet will just be with an off the shelf engine sound deadening material over some Dynamat. If you were to do the job I have done in the rear, in one hit, I think it would take about 2 full days, seats out to seats back in. Obviously with 2 people working at it, I think it would be just a single day. Quite a bit of faffing about and measuring stuff, plus of course the things that did not go 'right'... that I did not talk about! ![]() |

Great job, Pete, the best description of many threads on this topic. I thought of doing this with my Heritage but have held off, wondering whether I should keep it factory "perfect" - well, as delivered, anyway. No problems with the overall thickness of the layers affecting the seats when folded up?

It looks absolutely stunning! Looks like I have to give it a try, too.

Cheers again guys! Tony, I would probably not do this to a Heritage... perhaps a model to keep totally 'original'? But then again, if it was my daily driver, as my 90 is, then maybe I would! No problems folding the seats up at all. They also 'click' down with no worries too! Leo, yes the front is indeed next... but not for a wee while as I am back overseas to the UK again shortly! I am actually pretty excited about doing the front as if I get a similar sound reduction, it should end up as quite a 'quiet' Defender! ![]() ![]() |

Yes, that's my thinking. My TD5 is my daily driver and the Heritage has done less than 500 k's in the 3 months i've had it. However, I also think that it is quieter than the TD5, which I insulated and carpeted in the rear. I think the rear seats have a big effect in absorbing sound.

Hey Pete, great work. I have just done the same to my heritage. Whilst not my daily drive, I was using it for long journeys and sadly the noise levels made it a little impractical. I deliberated with leaving the green at the sides but eventually decided to cover it.. I must confess, not as neat as yours, but very pleased all the same. I am also going to do the front. I'm leaving the rubber matting in place for authenticity. I'm going to wait for the rain to leave our shores before I tackle the front. I'm sure you will get around to your before I do. Please post pics. I can attempt to copy your handy work.
Good post Pete, thanks ![]() |

Looks like a great job you have done.
Is this a worth while mod on any defender? Mines a 110 SW? I guess I would need more sound proofing and carpet ![]() What sort of price was it if you don't mind to do the 90. PM me if you like. yet another thing to add to my list of stuff to do !!! thanks ![]() |
