Ok so I will be doing the double din installation later this week. I have already make the cubby box ready for the switches and I am putting in the Alpine unit so apart from extending the wiring will the actual head unit plug into the existed Alpine factory loom??

My answer is based on mine a June 2015 MY15 90:
The short answer is "yes". Provided your existing factory HU is one of the more modern Alpine units with the black connector. The longer answer is "yes but" as the factory connector doesn't have all the wires connected that your new HU is likely to have/need. I fitted a different Alpine Double Din unit but for example a parking brake connection is needed (and unless grounded you cant change any settings, presumably a safety measure) which is not on the OEM cable. Your best bet is simply to get an ISO to Defender connector lead. That way you know you'll be able to use the lead supplied with the HU and connect to the Defender plug. http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic29061.html |

Where did you find the seats/plastic recess of switches you have installed on cubby? Thank you Daniele Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated ![]() ![]() IID Pro MV License |

Ok so all the kit has arrived, fascia is away to get painted so I am going to make a start getting the wires for the GPS, Bluetooth and camera routed. No I got the MUD adaptor which i have connected up, I still have 3 stray wires. Parking brake, remo(amp) and reverse. So do I need to tap into the park brake single lead? And the reverse for the camera?
![]() Click image to enlarge I want to detail this as much as possible to help others ahead. ![]() Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated ![]() 2014 Fuji 110 SW LS3 https://www.defender2.net/forum/post751233.html#751233 2014 Corris 110 SW http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic40056.html My old Xtech 90 build.. http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic15681.html LS3 V8 build... http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic49051.html |

Can't help much but the Handbrake lead is what disables the playback of DVD's when the handbrake is off, i.e. the vehicle is moving. The Reverse is what puts the camera view on the screen when reverse is selected. The amp wire is beyond me as I didn't get that technical when I wired mine in.
With my head unit I left the handbrake wire off so the head unit will play at any time and the reverse wire I connected to the switch I put on the dash which means that I can have the camera on at any time, I could use it to monitor a trailer or the like even though reverse is not selected. |

Thats what i thought, I am going to put a feed from a switch in to the reverse cable as well as the reverse light so that i can switch the camera on if needed as you have done... what about the GPS antenna, do they need to be mounted on the dash or can they be hidden away below?
Thanks ![]() 2014 Fuji 110 SW LS3 https://www.defender2.net/forum/post751233.html#751233 2014 Corris 110 SW http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic40056.html My old Xtech 90 build.. http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic15681.html LS3 V8 build... http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic49051.html |
