Gearbox oil change (uk)
Has anyone changed the gearbox oil yet?

I'm interested in two things...

1st the oil used...what did you settle on?
2nd how easy is the fill and drain...last time I looked the fill and drain points werent clear and it seemed that you had to be accurate with the fill against being able to measure amount?

The infill hole (about 15mm diametre) is quite hard to get with the Torx 50 and I hope you can unscrew the plug. It is located on the right side of the Gbox and above the cardan joint. I replaced with a brass made with a normal hex head. As for infilling depends on what you have available to pump. Otherwise you can do it by removing the panel under the cubby box and a funnel-hose.

It is not messy to drian as the oil pours straight down. The manual states 2.2 l of GL-4 75W-90 and for sure the infill hole does not match with the proper oil level. Hope it helps. Puma 110" SW

England 2004 Defender 90 Td5 CSW Zermatt Silver
When I did my gearbox oil change, I used a pump, and filled the pump with the correct ammount plus a little bit more.
The oil did pop out of the filler oil a little bit, but that was nothing compared to filling both my eye sockets up when draining the oil out, thanks to a nice gust of wind at the right time.

I used the MTF fluid from Opi oils.

Both the drain and filler bolts were buggars, not enought room to get a socket/wrench in there so it was a spanner job.
