No Brake Lights ! Help
Help !

No brake lights !

Changed the lights to Wipac Led's a few weeks back and all has been good until now.

I have had problems with the dim dip relay and need to remove it. Can this have an effect on the brake lights ? It's like they aren't getting enough voltage and are very dim ! Not good on the winters nights !!!

Any ideas please ?

Maybe mud or water in the tow socket shorting them? There's a plug under the drivers side wheel arch to disconnect to rule it out. Ray

Ah ha that could be it as the green tow light in on the dash ! The one that comes on when you are towing and signal Smile

Where is the plug ? What does it look like !

I was wading in deep deep water a few weeks ago !

Thanks again for advice Smile that's why this forum is so good Smile

Do you have access to a multimeter to check voltage? The brake switch is located in the pedal box and connected via two spade connectors, disconnecting this and bridging the two cables can test the entire circuit minus the switch. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

In and around the right hand rear wheel arch, should be close to the rear light loom you can follow from where it exits the chassis. I haven't looked at the Td5 tow electrics though, have you tried a squirt of wd-40 in the actual tow socket? 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

As mash says, follow the tow socket wiring under the rear arch to a grey plug just above the rear crossmember and unplug. If the lights still don't work the tow socket is ruled out so simply plug it back in Thumbs Up Ray

Totally confused !

Took the tow bar electric plug apart and it was fine. No rust contacts all good. Still have the green light on the dash !

Rear lights work ok. Brake lights are really dim ??

The dim dip is knackered however when I do the wire bypass I have no lights, and I did the right bypass by the way.

Can the brake light switch at the pendal not be working right and therefore not getting the voltage to the rear brake lights ?

Aaaaaaaahhhhhh help

Anyone know a good autoeletricain in Dunfermline ?

Everything was working fine until my dim dip relay went ! Will guy another one in the mean time !

Lights off, brake lights are bright

Lights on , brake lights dim !

The Wipac Led's worked great to start with, they can't be the problem can they ?

I'm sure there is a chassis Earth at the rear of the vehicle this would be where I would start, it really is a case of looking until you find one. There are several on the chassis. Once you find an earth remove it,clean it up ensuring it will have a good conductivity and then make sure it's tight. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

Continuing the silly questions !

The Wipac led lights have two wires. They are combined rear lights and brake lights there is no earth wire ? Is one of the wires earth or are they both power one for the rear lights and one for the brakes ? How do the led's Earth ? Through the screws ? Sorry know it's a stupid question but I am confused !

Thanks again for the advice
