!#@!%$ Gearbox
Seems like after reading all the posts on the gearbox issues, my Puma must have overheard and decided to follow her compatriots.
I just started noticing a rattle sound at low revs and more so when you change into 1st low and just let it crawl up the slope of the driveway.
Sounds like something loose inside the box.
Should I wait until the whole box destroys itself so LR are forced to install a complete new one or is it better to get it sorted sooner?
Appreciate some advice from those who have been down that road.


P.S Any South Africans had any such issues yet and if so what happened.

went to see my o7 double cab at the dealers

engine has the front missing and the gearbox is going to be replaced

your gear box won't blow up it will just get worst over time my one did

dealer will sort out land rover do know of the problem

Do they know exactly what the problem is and do they sort it on the replacement boxes or do they open yours and fix the broken or loose bits? Puma 110 - gone

Well I suppose its easier to diagnose there is a problem if its in 20 bits in a cardboard box in the boot Razz There are TSB or GTR notes that are available to your dealer or anyone that subscribes. Stuff like. If a customer complains that the bla bla bla. The fix is Bla Bla Bla type thing. So call or take it to your dealer Thumbs Up

Off to Dealers Thursday
I spoke to the technical guy at LR and asked if they had had any gearbox comebacks as yet.
They said they only had one gearbox which was the syncromesh on 2'nd gear and anoher which was clutch related - something aparently came loose.

I have her booked in Thursday and will revert once I have more info from them.

I also asked them at the same time to check why my idling changed sound from a quiet puma to a slightly more TD5 sound at idle and a very slight bit of hunting once she is warm. (barely noticable on the counter but you can hear the engine change tune slightly).

James I had something similar with mine not always running smooth, turns out it was a faulty fuel switch. Replaced under warranty and running fine now !
If you stand outside the vehicle and rev the trottle with you hand and listen carefully you will here it stuttering, thats what I showed them in the garage so they would fix it under warranty and not tell me they are all like that !!!!

Explained the whole senario again to technical dept. at LR.
The guy had a blank look on his face as I explained the problems to him. Shocked

Mr. Green
Dealer found the clutch plate springs as well as the center plate have come loose.
Also the noisy idling has aparently been sorted by re-programming the correct injector codes again.

Problem is now he is waiting on LR in the UK to get a new clutch kit which could take 3 weeks. He is trying to get them to agree to fly the parts next week but will only know by Monday.

I hope I get a RRS as a loaner Whistle lets wait and see. Puma 110 - gone

Weird this as I have got the same problem, put it in first and let the thing crawl and it sounds like something is rattling around on the inside of the clutch. Also is im just parked and press the clutch in, just as it releases I get this rattle, just at the top of the release. I can keep doing this and its the same noise.

defo sounds like something loose from the clutch?

im interested i get this in 2nd pulling away when the engine should be just pulling hard but not rattling - i dont try it too often so keep forgetting, i would be interested to know more... Mike

That's the exact symptoms I had. I have not seen the clutch plate yet so cannot comment on what exactly came loose.
I would get them to check it out, better news than replacing gearboxes.

The dealer has decided to refurbish the existing clutch and then later install a new one when it arrives.
Seems like double work to me. If I were them I would rather pay the airfreight from the UK then pay for loan car, refurbish of plate and then install the new one later.
But on the flip side I get to enjoy this

my 2007 double cab has been gone over three weeks now dealer still trying to sort out the clutch and gearbox noise

had a disco 3 loaner missed the canoes in devon no roof rack

they seem to be testing it with information from land rover and reporting back

the dealer and land rover have agreed tol replace the clutch and gearbox before they return it to me

Clutch Plate
I was called on Wednesday to tell me the clutch plate had been reconditioned and would be fitted.
I asked to have a look at the plate before it was fitted.
Looked all secure with new springs (Inner and Outer) and new friction lining.
I aksed when they were getting the new clutch plate and was told that was no longer necessary as the recondition job would be better or good as a new one.
I said ok at the time but started wondering afterwards.
Would the manufactured springs be the same spec as the original seing as the repair would probably have been a clutch specialist but not an original part.
Also the lining material might not be to LandRover Spec.
I wonder if I should insist on a later replacement or just get them to sign a letter stating the above facts and that the warenty on the clutch and any other related problems will be their baby.

I would want a new genuine one, and to see the removed one to makesure it was fitted.

I may settle if they put in writing it is better than a genuine clutch and will not affect length of service or warranty. As then when it fails you have some comeback. Mike
