[FOUND] R380 gearbox for 300tdi Defender or remote housing
So, I've got low mileage R380 out of a Discovery 300tdi and need to convert it to fit a Defender!!
Really I just need the Defender R380 remote housing and transfer box linkage, willing to buy a scrap box for the parts or if I can't find the bits I'll have to bite the bullet and buy a complete box.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Also I've talked myself out of fitting an auto box, is this the right decision? Thoughts?

I have an r380 box in which the bearings have gone. It's is complete with bell housing. I'll have to check if I have the linkage for transfer box though.

Let me know if it any good for you Thumbs Up

That sounds good thank you.
The remote housing where the gear levers fit is the most important bit really so definitely interested.
Sorry just to clarify it's out of 300tdi defender?

No worries, thanks for having a look!
I will just check that the housing aren't the same though, would be good if they were.

After a very quick check it would seem the top of the box (the gearstick housing) are the same, so still interested!
Would taking a photo be too much trouble, don't want to inconvenience you.
Thanks

Wow, many thanks for the quick reply.
Looks to be the right thing indeed, basically the top of the box as in photo 2
Would you be willing to sell that part separately, it could be boxed and posted, if not I'd have to come and collect the whole box!!

No problem at all to box and post,

Not sure what it's worth to be honest ??

How does £30 plus postage sound?

Db950 it is no good you just buying the rear shifter housing to convert a R380 disco box to R380 defender spec, you also need the shifter rail from the disco box which requires a gearbox strip down.

Ashcrofts do an extender and yoke for the rail that can be fitted without stripping the box, so doing that instead of fitting a complete new rail! Thumbs Up

I didn't know that they had done that kit.

I used to swap the shifter rails, I devised a way of swapping them in 1/2hr without major dismantling, but ashcrofts used to say it couldn't be done!

Sounds like you had it down to a fine art!!
I've seen people extend the rail themselves but to save time and hassle I thought I'd just buy one already made.
