Genesyz Battery Management System
I'm looking for a dual battery management system and Iìve found 4 models:

- Genesyz Battery Management System (by Devon)
- IBS dual battery system
- National Luna DIY split charge system
- T-Max digital monitor split charge.

Price are very different, starting from £83 of T-Max up to £235 of IBS and Nationa Luna.

T-Max seem a cheaper copy of National Luna, but I don't know if the quality is good as well and because it's very tricky I don't want to risk to remain without both batteries because of his fault... Shocked

So I'm looking for Genesyz system, that seem the most complete and, what not least, has a small main controler!

The only things that not convinces me is the maximum switch currents:

- Main isolating switch: 80 Amps @ 12 Volts
- Auxiliary equipment switch: 30 Amps @ 12 Volts

I state I am not an electronics genius, so I could easily say Censored Whistle , but the auxiliary one I think is not enough, because with compressor, refrigerator, lights, CB radio, water pump, inverters and others the consumption is much higher!

Anyone is using this system?? Matteo

I have a frend who has had a few of those systems fitted to his expedition truck.

He started out with the National luna, but binned that after the relay melted on a trip to Morocco. He now has a Genesyz system fitted and that has been fine for his many trips accross the work.

For my part, I have the IBS unit and have found it a very easy system to get on with. 2002 Defender 110 DC

I have a Genesyz system in my Puma. Installed it when I got the truck in Feb 2010, performed faultlessly on our June trip to the Kgalagadi.

Not sure if it's my unit only, but once or twice I have noticed the unit reboots itself when the car is off, i.e., it seems like it thinks the car is being switched on. But it has not failed, so I can only assume it is operating as intended.

Why not use an X-eng relay? Do you really need the electronics to see how much power is left?

If you want to make it more perfect I would install a time delay relais and put that at 10 minutes or so. This way you main battery will have the charge lost while starting back before the other battery will be connected.

The electronics don't give you a better charge in your batteries, at least I have nowhere found an explanation how the systems will do that. Roel

X-charge is only a 180 A relay.
What I need is a split charging, with also the possibility to disconnect batteries.
The possibility to check level of charge is required because of a lot electronical components I've installed that can cause possible discharge to very low level...

I know that with one ralay, a switch and power level gauge I can do the same, but first of all I don't want to make some strange connections and second I don't think I will spend less money...one ralay + switch are around 80-90 pounds + 30-40 per gauge + wiring and spare accessories. Matteo

This is a 300amp voltage sensing relay i use, really simple to use (you can also switch the unit so both batteries cab run in paralel using either the red dial or a switch on the dash)
Neet install with substantial cable Thumbs Up

Looks like it has been replaced by this unit:

This is my install:

The relay supplied with the IBS system is 200 amp continuous rated or 500 amps for short period of time.

The relay with the Genesis system is a can type relay and IIRC is rated at 180+amps.

Both systems will allow starting from second battery/winch operations. Whilst a winch can demand up to 500 amps it would rarely be used at maximum power for long periods of time.

Have used both systems and have noticed that the Genesis system can seem to cycle the start up sequence as another poster has pointed out, especially when second battery has got low on charge. My solution was to swop batteries over so secondary low battery becomes the main battery. Charged main battery becomes second battery and start the engine using link facility and then it charges the now low main battery as per normal. Hope that description makes sense.

So far the IBS system has worked fine for us.

Many different ways of achieving split charging from a simple manual switch system up to a fully automatic one. Just ensure that you get a system which will cope with your current needs and any foreseeable changes in your needs in the near future which will fit your budget.

Honestly I do not trust much of the electronic systems, in case of failure would remain without batteries.
But it is also true that it would be easy enough to restore the original form on the main battery to allow me to at least start the vehicle.

Simple manual switch may be forgetted from me or someone else who use the car (sometime my brother or my girlfriend use my 110...) and this is more dangerous for the battery life.

So I prefer to trust in elettronic! Cool Matteo
