My dad's in the market for a vehicle that can potter about off road occasionally, has 5 seats and has a towing rating of at least 2,500kg. Manual preferred, but not essential, mum would quite like an auto. He rather fancies the Disco Sport, so we've been having a look at the specs for it, only to discover that it only has a 2,000kg towing rating which isn't enough.
That is until you find a different bit of the Land Rover website that says it has a 2,200kg rating, or a 2,500kg rating. ![]() ![]() ![]() Click image to enlarge So yes, good work being nice and consistent there, and having an easy to use website that doesn't bury you under an avalanche of menus and confusion. There's always the Kia Sorento which is cheaper, more powerful, agrees with itself that it genuinely will tow 2,500kg with the manual box, has a website that's easy to use and makes sense, has a better warranty and will depreciate more so will be cheaper to buy second hand. And What Car reckons it's the one to buy too. |

So the towing capacity is variable depending upon engine and gearbox configuration - that's not really inconsistent is it?

Even just looking at one variant they vary, there's no mention anywhere in the brochure of the 2,500kg for instance.
It's just a bit frustrating really ![]() Disco Sport is only a 2" shorter wheelbase than a 110 and weighs about the same empty. |

I have a friend with a Kia Sorento. Stunning car for the money. Its only "badge snobbery" that prevents them selling more. OK, guess there probably is an argument over resale value but again its down to the badge!
Personally I think the Disco Sport is a real wrong move for LR. Its neither here or there or anywhere. You could mistake it for countless other 4x4's in the market. Buy a Sorento or go balls out and get a tidy second hand Disco 4 which remains (IMHO) the best vehicle they have ever made. Sorry, getting back to your post. The LR website is indeed appauling. As Spookytooth has said its designed to prepare you for ownership ![]() |

I've typed a reply once, but it seems to have disappeared, so apologies if this ends up a duplicate post.
The towing specs are in the owner manual, available on TOPIX. You would hope these are reliable https://topix.landrover.jlrext.com/topix/c...6095!!3!26 ![]() Click image to enlarge Last I knew the UK was only getting the 5+2 seater, but things might have changed since I lost interest. Hope this helps ![]() |

Thanks
![]() That's much clearer, I wonder why they don't just put that on the website? Interesting that you can go slightly over weight if you're driving slowly. |
