Water temperature gauge show going hot
These days the TD5 water temperature gauge niddle move over the middle to the red zone, sometimes just a bit over the middle, but sometimes goes closed to the red zone, but it goes back to the middle after few minutes??? Then will go over middle again...
Does it mean it's electricle error, or something else!
I did cold check no coolant lost!
Mr. Green

My gauge had a habit of bouncing around, normal to hot to cold back to normal. In the end I replaced the coolant temp sensor by the top hose/cylinder head side and that cured it. 1999 Defender TD5 110

If your td5 rally gets hot it will first move a little higher, like yours shows and then suddenly jump to the red zone. So that is a normal behaviour, but as yours jumps up and down quickly I would suggest, like as said before, to check/change the temp sensor.
If it really gets hot the ecu will reduce power and it will take some munites before the temp gauge will go down. Roel

run an additional earth from the ecu mounting plate to the battery,

it "should" cure that problem of the guage moving about on its own 110 XS DC M57 + 8 Speed auto

to easily prove /disprove take a langth of wire approx 5ft long, i normally use 2 core & terminate both ends together, small 6mm ring terminal at the ecu side & a 8mm ring at the battery side,

remove one of the ecu mounting bolts & secure the cable to it, on the battery side connect the other end to the NEGATIVE post on the battery,

basically you are bypassing any flaws in the earth path between the ECU & battery, 110 XS DC M57 + 8 Speed auto

The battery is on the passages side, and the ECU is on the driver side...
How can I connect the cable from battery negative to ECU bolt?
