Hi all!
Ive had my 110 for two months now and I decided to check the plug on the ECU to check for any oil ingress from the injector loom. While I was having a look around I noticed a plug tucked away under the main fuse box (pics attached), im not sure if my vehicle has been remapped or not but it does go well! I was just wondering if anyone had come across this before or had any idea what its for? Thanks for your help.

Not on mine either, looks like a few mods have been done in there.
I can see lots of scotch locks in the picture too. |

The obvious question is what is the plug/cable connected to? Or is the second picture the other end of the loom, as that seems to have been taken in the engine bay not from under the seat? If that is the case, and you both ends of the cable, perhaps the previous owners have replaced the ECU loom, and left the old one in situ?

That sort of D-type connector is not normally used on motor vehicles; there is no way that landrover put it there.

it could be that the previous owner had a plug-in tuning box? --

Hi Tazz
One end has the plug from the pictures and the other connects via scotch locks into the ECU harness (ill check and see what plug or plugs it connects to). Both pics are taken from inside the seat box driver’s side, it’s definitely not OEM and it also looks like a data plug. Thanks. |

it may be something to do with tuning, the truck goes well and pulls like a train so maybe. |

That is a DB-15 connection used now mostly for electronic projects but used to be the standard VGA plug on early computers. Looking at where the plug is located and where it has been spliced into I would surmise that a previous owner has built an engine diagnostic/remap computer either mounted permanently in the vehicle with a separate monitor or plugs it in as the need arises to diagnose/monitor engine faults etc. Something similar to this system,

Its looking like the previous owner has added the plug and as the vehicle goes very well maybe it’s been remapped. Is there any way to tell if the vehicle has been remapped, will I need test book? Thanks.  |

The only way you will tell if it is remapped is if you can read the Fuel file stored in the ECU. I do not know much about the Td5 ECU but do know that it is flashed with the new fuel file by the re-mappers normally. The Puma is different as you get a remap interface which allows you to swap between map files. Personally I would email the main defender tuners like Alive tuning and BAS with your registration number and ask if they have any record of your defender. If they do then they will also have the original fuel files on record. As to removing the plug from under the seat? Personally I would leave it alone especially if it isn't causing any electrical issues. If the scotch blocks are removed you will need to insulate the exposed wires with tape and there will be a slight weakness in the cable due to the way a scotch block works. Also on the V5 document there will be the previous owner listed, drop him a letter and ask him what it was for, you have nothing to lose and he may even sell you whatever it was that was plugged in there.  |

I have spoken to the previous owner and he was unaware of the extra plug under the drivers seat, the only thing he had changed on the vehicle was getting a GKN overdrive fitted. I will contact BAS and Alive shortly and see if there is any history. Thanks. |

The first thing i'd do as well, is remove the scotchlocks, then burn them. |
