Help please.
We need to get from Munich to Cornwall next week and don't want to use the Chunnel for obvious reasons! Can anyone recommend a ferry alternative - we don't mind going from Germany/Holland/France etc. but would prefer less driving on the UK side if possible. I've looked into a few ferry routes but as I've always used the Chunnel before I'm a bit phased. Cheers for any advice. Matt Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

If you don't mind driving across a france ,then Roscoff to Plymouth will get you nearer to Cornwall.

I used the tunnel a couple of weeks ago and am about to use it again Sunday. Not phased about a couple of hours potential delay it's the lorries they're stacking not cars. I work for a reasonably well known high speed ferry company and reading recent work related e-mails the French farmers are at it too near most ports causing disturbance and protests burning tyres etc. closing roads so either way you could be stuffed. Stick to your original plan and enjoy your break, the worst you will get may be a two-three hour delay whatever method you use to cross the Channel.

As above. Used the tunnel Saturday and zero issues coming to UK, and on way out was delayed by an hour due to stack.

Condor ferries also operate out of Cherbourg into Dorset and Hampshire.

NOT ANYMORE we don't not the high speed service! Not since last year. Brittany used to charter us to do that trip and we sailed under their flag only one round robin in the morning. The high speed service is from St Malo on Condor Rapide to the Channel Islands then you swap vessels to Condor Liberation for the northern leg to Poole. It is not a cheap way to simply cross the Channel. Our conventional vessels sail into Portsmouth only the Goodwill does not take cars only hauliage and the Clipper only a few cars. Neither sail direct to Portsmouth from France only via the Channel Islands. That is why I use the tunnel myself. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Ballpark £500 return, if they have available space at such short notice! Compared with £241 Eurotunnel! How deep are your pockets? If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

I've found Dunkirk to Dover about the cheapest recently, Dieppe to Newhaven is another route but can be pricey.
