The future of Twisted
Mr Fawcett being rather coy in this nice piece by the Drive Network here.

He doesn't say anything firm, but certainly alludes to the possibility of Twisted continuing to build Defenders from the ground up into the future. Have to say, I rather admire the guy. No doubting that he has built a very successful business from the ground up doing something that most people would have said was a ridiculous idea at the outset. Lovely sounding engine, especially when overtaking the lorry Thumbs Up

He mentioned one of the faults being it's wandering steering but then didn't mention anything they did to resolve this - was that just an oversight? 137mph in fourth on standard steering sounds more than leery Shocked

What a magic video....one of the best I've seen.
A Defender with an LS3 in it would be my ideal Defender,...6.2L of lazy U.s. Muscle,....can't beat it.
I don't think this guy's business will be unduly affected by the end of production, surely there'd be virtually an inexaustable supply of pristine low mileage vehicles for him to source?
What an awesome product.

Great brand starting from nothing. They might be expensive but the quality is exceptional. I saw their work at Goodwood last year and there attention to detail is immense.

Supacat, the V8 which I saw in person has Ohlin adjustable dampers with uprated axles and a custom valved steering damper. It is supposed to handle incredibly well for such a powerful Defender.

It shows that although if one of us went and sourced all the parts separately, you could perhaps save some money but how many of us have the time to actually do that? Also for me its the brand. Everyone wants one and you aspire to own one like a good wrist watch. We can all get a Swiss movement watch but people still aspire to have a Patek.

Once the Defender goes from the UK - anyone who is trying to keep the product alive is good in my aspect Thumbs Up

How does Twisted create their machines? He mentioned a lot of stock to keep producing for a few years.

I'm guess that this is stock that is already registered? As I'm guessing you won't be able to register a previously unregistered Defender once the restriction comes into force stopping LR registering them? Craig Rogers

yes it cannot leave Land Rover/dealer without being registered so I presume Twisted are the first name on the log book (probably worth something on resale if it was first owned by Twisted). I believe that once production stops, there will be a limited amount of time after this to register vehicles into 2016 but otherwise they will all have to be registered 2015/2016. Unless there is a way of not registering them??

With the type of modifications they do, they can use a recent low mileage vehicle as a base. My guess is that after the hype of this year, and a number of "enthusiasts" climbing into Defenders because it is in to do so, there will be a enough low mileage ones on the market in two years, to keep the better Defender specialists supplied.

Like motorbikes, sports cars, and sailing boats, they conjure up a lifestyle image (freedom, independence, adventure). After two or three years, some owners become devoted and and dependant on a regular dosage, whilst others work out how much money they have standing around not being used, and consequently sell.

On another note it was good to see Twisted showing (bar the wheels) stock appearance vehcles. These will ultimately become the most valued ones, once the factory stock dries up. 1998 Tdi 90 SW,

This maybe the answer - "Thanks to good relations with JLR, Twisted has had a circa Ł8m order for 240 new Defenders rubber stamped, which Fawcett equates to three years’ worth of business at its current growth rate."

Bought direct and unregistered means that they can be sold to the first owner with no previous names in the log book.

When I was in Thirsk I had a look around Twisted, had a quick word with Charlie he was busy he was a nice guy! They had some good work going on and plenty of it. Suppose that says it all. Very Happy wish them all the best!

My daily drive is a Twisted Ultimate 110 and the attention to detail by Twisted is fantastic. I am also lucky enough through work to have access to drive a 90 Road spec Bowler but always choose the Twisted.
