Tim

Thanks for pushing the issue along. I have a vested interest as my engine probably fits into the batch timeline identified in the Ford recall.

I'm reading, perhaps optimistically, Pete's response as a "straight bat" or holding position until the JLR machine has digested whatever information Ford are passing them and then making their own recall plans. it may well be that JLR will not issue the recall until they have the supplyline sorted for the pumps they will need. Ford may be pulling all current excess production into their own recall programme.

However, it may have been more customer friendly to say the position was under review and further information would follow.

Given that it's a Ford engine, I did wonder if Ford would be picking up the cost of the recall for JLR, or whether the supply agreement excludes such arrangements?

No Bother... I'm just worried about the safety of my family... I work in the Motorsport world and have seen oil pump failures before... In racing its part of the game...
However, My wife bobbing down the motorway having an oil pump failure would most likely be very serious or possibly fatal. Imagine locking all four wheels up, at 70mph in the wet... By the time you worked out why, Where would you be?...
Your statement that

However, it may have been more customer friendly to say the position was under review and further information would follow.

Is very true....

Imagine yourself on the motorway with your little kids. You'll have to get them out of the car and keep calm with cars passing in very small distance. A real nightmare.

Well, as said, I'm hoping that LAND ROVER make things clear with FORD and things return to normal asap.
Neither my family nor I want to be a 2nd class costumer. Especially in safety issues.

So should I now be getting concerned about the engine (and oil pump) in my 2014 Defender?

if I had a 2.2 . then yes I think I would be worrying , saying that there are a lot of 2.2 engine out there and there not all getting problems

I think its a problem that one day there good next there not , never heard of symptoms leading up to failure

maybe fitting a oil pressure gauge would help monitor any changes in running pressure changes / drops etc , don't know only a guess

Given the Transit build dates are 1/10/2011 to 4/10/2013 then it will depend when your defender was built and whether it included an engine with the same spec pump as these transits. Who knows the time lag of engine production to vehicle build and whether they would be similar for the transit and defender.

It also seems logical that after these dates the pump must have changed spec to not be included.

Hi Pete

We're discussing these oil pump failures in German Land Rover Forums, too.
Land Rover indicated in a personal letter that we can expect an official recall in April by the Federal Motor Traffic Authority (Kraftfahrtbundesamt, KBA):
http://www.blacklandy.eu/blboard/forum/sho...f-von-Ford Thread #27

A forum member received the following respose from Land Rover (directly as he says):

Sehr geehrter Herr Dr . XXXXXXX,

In English the letter says: Dear ...

Thank you for your demand.
We kindly request you to excuse our late response since we had to acquire information from the manufacturer.
The manufacturer announces a reaction in April. You are then going to receive an official letter by your retailer or the authorities.

Could you please confirm or kindly give us some further information?

Best regards

Julia

Hi All,

I can certainly appreciate your concerns, however as I have previously advised, at this time Land Rover have not released any further details on this.

I am more than happy to update you should this change in the near future. Additionally, please be aware that at any time where a Recall Action is released, we do contact the owners of any potentially affected vehicles to make them aware of concerns and provide details of the actions required.

Many thanks,
Pete

Is the oil pump the same on the LR and Ford in this engine?

I presume that the LR will have a different set up as it gets to more extreme angles that the Ford so I guess it has a different pick up etc etc.

Can anyone access the part numbers for the LR and Ford oil pump components? 130's have feeling's as well you know Smile

No owners on here with that VIN range heard anything yet?
Our 90 is within that range, so it'll be interesting to see when we hear about it?
