Top cover off, you'll see the filter under the exhaust manifold. It wasn't me!

Engine oil and filters sorted now.
The oil filter 'jiggling' was fun - I think my definition of jiggling is struggling like a man with ten thumbs!
All went ok though - not much mess thanks to the bag.

Managed to get my hands on some genuine Land Rover MTF 94 for a very modest cost so I'll have a crack at the gearbox this week, along with the transfer box (EP GL5) Any hints and tips before I take the plunge? Other than new drain plug washers, is there anything I should get hold of 'just in case' before I crack that nut. I've got the torx55!

All very therapeutic - with a hint of the placebo effect.

Thanks all.

Will.

Hi Screbble
one tip is to buy a 5-7 litre hand pump sprayer (about £10) and use this to refill the gearbox\transfer box etc. Works a treat as you can position the flexible hose into the fill port.

Cheers Tommo.
Makes sense given the relatively poor access to the filler/level plug.
A 5l pressure sprayer ordered off Fleabay this afternoon - £7.50.
I bet it'll make filling both the gearbox and transfer box a doddle!
Thanks for the tip.
I'll keep you posted!
Will.

That pressure sprayer really did make filling the gearbox a doddle - possibly even a pleasure......

Best £8 I've spent in a long time.

Feels like a new box, after filling with Land Rover MTF94.

Thanks for the advice/pointers.

Whilst I'm on, I can see the transfer box drain plug (1/2 square drive head), but can I heck find an obvious filler.

Any pointers, local landmarks for me to look for?!

Cheers,

Will

PS I know it'll be obvious when you tell me.

Faces to the back of the vehicle, can be obscured by handbrake cable.

Easiest way I've found to remove / refit the transfer box filler is 3/8" drive to 1/2" converter with approx 100mm 3/8" wobble drive extension with a 3/8" breaker bar. They can be tight to undo!

Thanks guys. Job done.
It was obvious where the filler was when it was pointed out!
Both plugs were easy enough to remove and look relatively 'new' which appears to have been the case with the others.
Only managed to get a little over 2 litres of new oil into the transfer box despite leaving it to 'settle' for 1/2 hour. There must have been some residual oil in there even though I left it draining while I got on with something else.
I'll check it again next weekend after a few runs.

A std 1/2 inch short extension bar seemed to work ok (had the wobbly drive ready just in case).

I think the placebo effect has kicked in as it now drives like a dream....

....apart from the rattles....

....apart from the leaks....

.....apart from the noise.....

I wouldn't have it any other way. Always a big grin on my face when I'm driving it.

Thanks for your help and advice.

Will.

Hello, Is the the sump plug of the engine oil tank?
I went under the car today and found this...the under engine and gear box area is cover by a big sheet, mat be plastic!
I was able to spot this, and looks like leaking Mr. Green
