How far to go with sound proofing a TD5?

I have done a reasonable amount of DIY sound proofing my TD5 110 CSW including Wright Off-Road front mat, engine blanket and under bonnet, plus there is carpet and Exmoor mats in the back and I also have the lowered gear transfer box. However the comments have started to arrive from SWMBO that we should really use our quiet CX5 for the 1400 miles to Austria and back this year.

I realise the defender is never going to match this noise level but I was wondering if there would be much to gain from a proper full strip out and Dynamat from one of the professional installers or would I be spending a lot of money for a little gain?

Has anyone done something similar in a TD5 and would you say it was worth the expense for the gain?

I'm (still

) half way through doing mine and have done all the floor upto the windows. It has made a big difference and I can now hold a conversation even at motorway speeds. Having been around the car stereo scene in my youth I know that doing the large flat roof will make a big difference too but haven't had time to get too it yet. Tell her to man up

We did 1600 miles each way to Belarus in our standard 110 CSW last year - did it non stop on the way back sharing the driving, and only had one overnight stop on the way there. You get used to the noise after the first 100 miles or so - well, either that or you have become partially deaf

Well to be fair we have done the journey twice before only difference is we now have the option of another quieter car. Does concern me a bit when my son tells me his headphones are on full volume otherwise he can't hear the movie
