Finally had enough
Well I've finally had enough of this gear change clanging business and called LR UK to ask that a technician is present when its sent back to the dealers yet again next week Sad
Four times in the last twelve months its been in and I'm sick of the "well its just how they are" or the "this is one of the quietest we've heard" nonsense. If thats the case why does it always come back and be like a different vehicle for a month or two and then revert back to its old self after then ?
Ask the dealer what they've done and they say nothing and just shrug their shoulders.Obviously the plan is to see it out of warranty and then you're on your own Evil or Very Mad
Why can't they admit to the problems and offer a solution that lasts more than five minutes Big Cry

322tpe, It will be the plastic selector on top of the gearbox that as worn...You need a new one....I ended up getting a new gearbox as the plastic selector was out of stock, keep on at them as it should not be like that, don't take no for an answer, Tell them you want to test drive a new one and to get their technician to test drive yours with you in it and see the difference NEVER TAKE LIFE SERIOUSLY. Fekete

Thanks for that at least its put my mind to at least getting it back quickly

It doesn't help when the dealers are in complete denial about the clutch/box problems.Even on the test drives they deny there any problems and when you push it you get the impression that its a taboo subject."No,never had any back in with this problem" is the rehearsed speech when I know for a fact theres three others that I know of that have got the same problem
Its just like the Fawlty Towers sketch about the german tourists only in this case its "I mentioned the clutch but I think I got away with it " Whistle
Woeful product design and a shambolic attempt to cover it up Embarassed

It took me 6 or 7 attempts same sh!t off the dealer...they even told me at one point well it is tractor like...Don't except their Sh!t...Get their technician to test drive it with you in it...I've found that if your persistent they will give in in the end..Hope you get it sorted. NEVER TAKE LIFE SERIOUSLY. I started to have the same issue about 4 weeks ago, took it into my local LR service centre (thankfully its not a dealership) and they diagnosed the selectors needed replacing..

bad news was that they were on back order, have been waiting since then for them to come in.
Thankfully ive been away lots so not really an issue, popped in to see them this morning and theyve ordered me a new gearbox that will be getting fitted next week Very Happy Puma 2.2 90 Stationwagon

my problem is between 1st, 2nd & 3rd when trying to select the gear it feels like youre fighting against it.
Almost as if the clutch isnt fully depressed, so it clunks into gear

Its even worse in low range. Puma 2.2 90 Stationwagon

Similar problem here
When approaching a red traffic light, driving slowly, I put the gearbox in neutral and lift my foot off the clutch pedal I hear a loud knocking noise under the car as if some part is loose and banging around. My dealer told me this is normal with Defenders.
I think this is rubbish. Should I take it back to the dealer? Hans
