2014 2.2tdci Galv Chassis Project
Has anyone done this?

I have been searching the forum and net in general but don't seem able to find anything about the newer Puma's having been converted / modified other than one that Foleys sold a while back which appears to have been an export model

Has anyone here done this?

Reading the various threads I see that the choices appear to be Richards or Marsland, has anyone dealt with them recently? MY2015 110 Urban Truck Expedition Spec

I don't know if a puma has been done - but I do know that Maraland chassis are puma chassis.

They buy them from GKN (who provide Land Rover) then put the mounts on you want and then galvanise them.

I seem to remember Big Steve telling a sorry about a Puma that was on a galvanised chassis specifically to void the warranty.
I have a Richards ' galvanised chassis on order, but for my 110, rather than my defender.

I can understand the point in fitting a galv chassis to older one that needs it , but why bother with a late one , just wax it propely and will last for years

As Munch states what's the point of shelling out ballpark £3k plus at such an early stage? Question

On later models Anti-Theft is a much more prudent investment, chances are dependant on where you live it'll be long gone before the onset of chassis rot. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Sorry should have explained its not for my MY 2015

I have been offered a 2014 Cat B (Break Only) 110 CSW

The chassis and shell must be destroyed but all the other parts i can use

I can therefore buy a new chassis and do a complete transplant therefore imo creating the 110 as Land Rover should have on day one

My intention is to built it for off roading and also with the long term goal of some overseas travel and trips etc. MY2015 110 Urban Truck Expedition Spec

Thumbs Up Starting from scratch a galvanised chassis IMHO is definitely the way to go. Thumbs Up

With my limited knowledge on such things Richards would be my initial first port of call based on rumour, hearsay, previous customer feedback and an excellent reputation. I personally hadn't heard of Marsland before this thread.

Pretty sure Richards Chassis do a Puma chassis, and I'd much rather use them than anyone else around! Thumbs Up An engine to TDi for!

Having spoken to DVLA and the local inspection team in the Southampton office it will depend on what other parts I end up using

At the moment my intention is to use my 1998 Vin as the chassis is in need of multiple repairs and verging on being non viable hence the reason I started looking for other options

I have been advised that I must remove the chassis numbers / plate and then retain it, along with proof of the destruction of the original chassis. I have also been advised to keep all the reciepts for all the parts purchased so that I don't have problems at a later stage

However if I find enough new shell parts etc then I will submit the paperwork for the points registration system to allow me to apply for a 14 Plate

I don't think this will however be possible as the chances of finding the shell interior and other parts needed are limited and also would not be viable from a financial point of view

The only qualifying parts would be the engine and drivetrain so at this time no where near enough points for a new registration

I know that sadly there are lots of people who do this with the sole motivator being to use stolen parts and effectively clone / ring written off cars

My intention is to build something to my spec that I can use off road and for some trips I am planning and to know that it's all been built as I want it.

It wouldn't be possible with all new parts so this is the best way for me to achieve it MY2015 110 Urban Truck Expedition Spec

Until you have used both Richards or Marsland you cannot tell which is best.

Richards chassis are OK, that is if you like to spend hours getting all the galv out of all the threaded holes then having to retap all the said holes, then if you like the fact that the inner of the chassis is not totally covered in nice thick galv then Richards is the chassis for you.

Now if you want a chassis that has all the holes cleared and tapped ready for the various bolts that will thread into them, if you want a chassis where all the inside is covered with a lovely thick galv then Marslands is the one you want.

In my honest opinion Marsland's are the best Land Rover chassis makers in the UK by far. I have had three from them over the years and each one has been perfect and better than my expectations. I cannot say the same for the Richard chassis I have worked on.

Marsland's chassis are made in a lovely little place in the Peak District called Chinley which makes for a nice day out if you visit them.

Thanks for the heads up

Have you used Richards recently?

Reading both websites they both say they debur and clean all the threads etc

The part about even coverage worries me slightly

The last Richards I was involved with was three years ago.

But if you do a little bit of research on Land Rover forums and most people do give a nod to Marsland as being the better make.

Yes I have seen lots of pro's and con's

Also the differences in the thicknesses of the steel and the issue with the use of the td5 rear crossmember
Hence I was hoping to see if anyone had actually completed a Puma transfer.

I will call them on Monday and see how I get on

Thanks for the help though

Whilst asking is there anything that I should be doing whilst it is stripped apart?

I know that poly bushes etc are the usuals but not sure it's worthwhile on a 2014? MY2015 110 Urban Truck Expedition Spec
