well I took my Defender for the recall today and other than the courtesy car not materialising (which to be fair they told me on Friday as apparently it came back damaged) and spending 4 hours in their lounge area rather than the 2 I was told it would take the job to get done.
I got my already fitted brackets back despite again being told they had got to go back to JLR, I think the note I left for the Service team on the seat probably worked better than all the conversations I had with the various representatives in office attire. Hopefully the recall has been closed on the system Sytner Coventry if anyone wants to take theirs to someone whom will do it. Ianh you have a PM Now I just need to start collecting bits for the axle case swap which will be the only way to get real piece of mind. Success of sorts so well done. Imagine celebrating the fact that you actually got a maindealer to do what they were supposed to do! Also getting your own property left to you when the job was done seems to be another cause for celebration! Ok, so you had the brackets fitted, but to close out the recall they had to remove those and fit a new set, then the removed brackets had to go back to LR, but instead they gave them back to you?
Makes you wonder what idiot comes up with all this logic, obviously no bearing on the real world. I have given up on garages for anything other than tire changes and such. The time it takes to organise the visit and then wait or come back etc, I just do most my self. Obviously I recognize it took me years and years to build up the toolset and experience and obviously I like doing it as well. Just seems using a garage is so such hard work. |

Indeed I am finding I now expect poor service as it appears to be the norm in all walks of life, needed them to do it as it was the only way they would close the recall DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

Is this JLR or a Faulty Towers episode

Yes for sure, I forgot to add that juicy fact. There have got to be people within these companies shaking their heads, but they are probably paid less so not important enough.. |

Glad it all got sorted in the end, but what a rigmarole to get them to , 1 do the work, 2. Give you back your own property. And just sent pm back re still wanting brackets, i’m Just a couple of days and few hundred vehicles beyond the recall notice, but knowing JLR records are far from accurate (understatement) and I don’t trust them either given their attitude to this whole issue, then I want to fit to give me a bit more of a chance if my axle fails. It certainly won’t take four hours to fit them both 
Ps. On your front bumper what are the 2 recesses between the soft A Bar uprights for ? I’m assuming some sort of lights ? |

I'm not sure why a job timed at 12 minutes took 4 hours, unless it took 3 hours and 48 minutes to free your old brackets after the nuts were removed! Failing to return your brackets would have been a crime (theft by conversion) and I seriously doubt that the recall says anything about returning them the LR. If you were having a broken axle replaced (or indeed any other faulty parts replaced under warranty) that would be expected, but not in this situation. What a hassle, eh? At least it wasn't that shower in Derby, they'd probably have written the vehicle off and told you to claim on your own insurance! |

This 2012 90 belonging to a friend suffered axle casing failure today, apparently felt like a flat tyre for a split second before completely letting go and slewing across the road, hitting a wall - note trackrod!! Unsure if he had receive a recall notice for it or not.

Hope driver and occupants are ok and no one injured.
As I stated in earlier posts, its not if it happens, but when. Every component has a service life, the higher the stress, the lower the life. Yes, I have the Defender at my workshop, I have a spare 2008 casing to go on it, I’ll take some detailed photos once I’ve removed the axle
