What plate to choose?!
Exciting times ahead... I've been told that my new defender has been built! Delivery soon but now looking at a plate for it!

I'm thinking my initials for the first two letters, but not sure about the last 3?!

What's a good three letters for a defender?!

Incidentally, does anyone know about the process of DVLA issuing numbers to new cars?

My dealership has given me a list of numbers which I can choose for the car. Is that list of plates something which they've had to purchase from the DVLA or do the DVLA simply give dealers a list of numbers in batches to put on new cars??

It seems to me that, if the dearlers have to buy the registrations, then all they'll be doing is passing that onto me anyway. So if I wanted something more specific, I'll be purchasing the same thing twice!

Seems a bit unfair if that's the case.

Obviously if the DVLA DO give out registrations for free to dealerships then that's different...

The DVLA just issue us a list of numbers. Once we've filled them they issue you some more.

Nothing very interesting usually I'm afraid.

Make sure you check the DVLA's own website first as a lot of these registration companies just readvertise from there with a Mark up

FCX makes a good point.

I purchased 2 in a 'Sale' from newreg and was happy. The DVLA did have them also one at exactly the same money as the Plate I wanted (before it was discounted) and the other Plate the DVLA was cheaper by £15.

All in I saved just over £150 by buying from newreg, but the point Go Beyond makes is valid, prices do vary, so do your research, and include the DVLA. SKIP

I've seen a MUD plate in Primrose Hill London. A mate of mines got a DOG plate. If you're patient sign up for DVLA Auctions - they usually offer more unique plates every few months. Its where a lot of dealers buy stock. I bought mine there a few years ago and looking forward to finally putting it on my Landy. 2015 110 XS CSW Montalcino Red with Black Pack

Having one’s initials on a car is a vanity thing, and why not (I’ve “3” plus my initials on my Morgan; “6” plus my initials on retention to go next year on a last edition Defender or, as seems more likely, a Discovery Sport)?

To have JAG, TVR, MOG, DEF etc. on a car seems to me stupid, anybody who cares can see what it is!

Hello Birdy

Maybe... or maybe not Exclamation

My brother has BUG_ _ on a 60s VW Beetle, the car came with it but after negotiation
he paid low 3 figures for the plate and by chance his 'investment' has performed better
than almost anything recently...

http://www.theprivateplateco.co.uk/blog/in...es-part-3/

As ever... just have what you want.

But maybe avoid...
