Tracing an electrical fault on blower

Hi,

I've now booked next week off, so am looking to resolve a few issues on my 110. A long standing issue has been the blower not working. It keeps blowing fuses and the issue is not associated with the drain being blocked in the intake.

I have basic but proficient electrical skills and a multi -tester, so really looking for advice on a suitable methodology to resolve the problem (and not have to drive around with the windows open now the weather has changed!). I've noted the wiring diagrams available and will look to these, but want to start down the most obvious path first. Any pointers very welcomed.

Isolate the blower itself if possible and switch it on with the ignition on. If the fuse still blows you know the issue lies with the circuitry and not the blower itself. Thereafter find a convenient point isolate the circuitry halfway and try again. Quickest way to find the culprit area but you will need a few fuses.

99.9 times out of 100 it's the motor itself or the wiring where it passes into the heater box mate

Is there a best way to isolate the circuitry to test?
Am I also correct in that the fan speed sliders act as the earth?
I'll check out to see how much the motors are, too.

Pull fuse 45 rated at 30 amps and disconnect the black earth cable from the blower switch the circuitry will be isolated. Looking at the diagrams you should then have the following resistance values from the blower switch cables (cables disconnected from switch) these are your blower speed resistor values...

From the brown wire to the blue wire on the blower switch 0.45 ohms.
From the brown wire to the red wire 0.55 ohms.
From the blue wire to the red wire 1 ohm.

You can then carry out any further insulation resistance checks as necessary. Apologies if this is an 'egg sucking' exercise but may point you in the correct direction perhaps? Good luck. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Dgardel resistors pack checks are written above....the 0.45 0.55 bit.

Thanks: the help given by you is what makes this forum so great to less knowledgable folk like me.
Absolutely not teaching me to suck eggs and bizarrely looking forward to fixing the blower next week......
My last ask: does anyone just happen to know if it is it a case of dismantling the dash to disconnect the black earth cable?
