Wolf wheels banding
Has anybody banded a set of Wolf's - I am considering getting a set done to accommodate wider tyres and give more offset. I know it would be cheaper to fit aftermarket alloys - but I don't like the look and cost is immaterial.

Steel wheels especially wolfs and their inherent strength, together with their appearance are my prime condideration. Considering something similar to the pic below from :- http://www.alonzecustom.co.uk/steel-wheel-banding.php

If any forum members have done this your advice would be much appreciated - yes I know the pic is of a RR Classic Rostyle and not a Wolf - but it gives an indication of the width and offset achievable.

I have often thought the same thing- would be very interested to see the results as having some 7" wolf wheels would be fantastic!

I was thinking of going with a +1" band which would give me a 7.5" wheel width with 1/2" extra offset I.e approx 8mm offset as opposed to 33mm std LR wheels or 20.6 mm offset on The Wolfs... I was just wondering if there were any issues with balancing etc...

I remember reading that in Germany they are outlawed, and my brother told me about few vw from the uk had to to get trailed out the county after failing a tuv test on there way to a show. Don't they sell wolfs with the deeper rim 7.5j? In the end I hunted down a set of forward control 2b rims will add a photo (tomorrow bin told its past my bed time Big Cry ) Range Rover p38 4.6 99 lpg(gone Sad )

I had a set of banded wheels on my VW Beach Buggy with strengtheners welded from the hub out to the rim, they were slightly OTT with a 3" band and straight from the 70's which to be honest is where they should have stayed as they didn't balance properly and vibrated like mad over 50mph.....

Never again was the phrase that comes to mind ! I stand to be corrected but I have a feeling they are also illegal now.

Still 25 years ago they looked the nuts !!!

DOH - just checked out the website - looks like you can still do it then.

Banded steels=cool.

Though under a big Defender, be careful, the 'banders' need to be putting the right thickness steel in place.

I am dubious about banding the steelies on my Lupo!

Proceed with caution Thumbs Up

I was going to get some done for my soft top as would have gone with the look, but did some research first. My insurance said they wouldn't cover them as were no longer approved or quality assured wheels.

Can see there thinking though, so wouldnt even consider this route in the UK unless you want to be uninsured or certainly risk it if ever you had an accident.

Stue can I ask do you know what offset your FC rims are ? As Wolfs are also 6.5" wide but they have an offset of 20.6 mm as opposed to std LR Defender steel wheels which are 33mm

The Wolf markings are 6.5jx16x20.6 etc which I am pretty sure is exactly the same as some FC rims?

Many thanks

better than banding is to cut two wheels in different places and make one wheel out the two , only one joint then , but you lose a set of wheels ( or you could make one wide set and one really narrow set Rolling with laughter )

neater and stronger and straighter using two wheels to make one

Twisted banded original Rostyle wheels which I think look brilliant. Banded to 18 inch and 9 inch wide. Fill the arch really well with the BFG
