forgot to add, front end is back together less front cover, just pondering whether to strip further whilst i await rocker arm. Cheers

No, it will be fine. Had a 300tdi that snapped a belt last week, bent all 8 push rods and snapped 2 rockers, despite the customers friends and family telling him it would definitely have bent valves etc I fitted a new belt new rods and rockers and it fired first turn of the key, done 4 or 5 like this now and not seen one damage valves yet.

i have heard 50/50 either way. with overhead vertical valves i am thinking it will be ok.

As the bottom of the valves are parallel to the piston crowns, then you shouldn't have any bent valves.
Just get a piece of wood/hammer handle and push each valve down, check it's free to move and doesn't have any tight spots, and pops back up again as soon as you release the piece of wood. I've had several belts snap, 200 and 300's, and (touch wood) never had a bent valve... not to say that it couldn't happen mind! |

its all back together, two new valve adj screws, one rockers shaft and one rocker plus belt - seems i was lucky goes well again now, thank you all for the advice. Cheers
