Recommendation for Defender 110 300tdi Exhaust?

My whole exhaust system is rotting and will soon need replacing on my 1995 Defender 300tdi CSW 110.

I am considering the expensive stainless steel route. I'd like to increase mpg and unlike some I don't want noise!

What are the advantages of stainless apart from longevity, and what systems are recommended (and for what reason)?

If there's already a thread on this, I haven't found it!

It purely depends on how deep are your pockets. Each and every manufuacturer will naturally profess theirs to be the best. Stainless steel exhaust systems complete can vary considerably in price by up to nearly £350 but they all do the same thing.

I have a stainless system that was made by a 'Horse Dentist' as named by another provider who's exhaust cost considerably more than mine. With a lifetime guarantee either way who really cares?

Do a search and make your own mind up would be my advice. None of them will make your Landy drive like a Porsche or Ferrari afterwards or make old age pensioners cover their ears and have heart attacks as you drive past. If it's function over form you want with a good guarantee at a good price......Griffin.

'Stainless Exhaust' in the search box reveals 140 threads that should keep you busy for a while and provide you the answers you seek.

If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

In that case then i would sugest buy a new std exhaust and tweak the pump = same std sound and more power

thanks - I put in all sorts of combinations of exhaust, + 300tdi etc but did not put stainless in duh! who was your horse dentist? 110 Defender 300tdi & Penman trailer with ally exped top and roof tent

The landy already had a new exhaust fitted when i bought it in February 2.5TD ( 200TDI ) and decided to alter my exhaust to come out of the rear wing and at the same time i decided to fit a straight through exhaust aswell and ordered a straight through middle section from paddocks which was a stainless steel pipe then found out that the exhaust down pipe wouldn't fit the new middle pipe ( flanges was different ) then figured out my exhaust was infact a 2.5TD exhaust fitted to a 200TDI so ordered a new 200TDI down pipe to fit the middle pipe then made my own rear section to come out of the rear wing then tweaked the pump later

In real terms the 200 /300 engine is restricted in power in std form giving less mpg so giving the engine more power gives better mpg aswell

Did the question get answered?

MPG gains........Not necessarily, with more power your driving style will change negating any gains to be had of any mpg increase which will hardly be noticeable if at all in this scenario. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Probably a bit of both as i wanted to do the exhaust mainly for the sound but i recently fitted a set of insa turbo special tracks and lost a bit of power which i expected then got reading about tweaking the injection pump all this happened at the same time if you know what i mean but by fitting a straight through exhaust on its own should make some difference a bit like replacing a 300tdi catt with a de-catt pipe really a bit more power and slightly better mpg but nothing drastic

The sound as you are removing the rear silencer and i fitted a straight through pipe aswell

In realistic terms your exhaust will never pay for itself. No point throwing a horrendous amount of money on an expensive top market exhaust that may cost you more than you need to pay. If the vehicle as explained is a 'keeper' sensible thing would be to go for a cheaper stainless or standard perhaps? If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

1991 Defender 110 200 Tdi USW Arles Blue

I looked into getting a stainless exhaust system for my 200Tdi and decided that I could replace every section of my exhaust 3-4 times over about 15 years for the price of a stainless system so decided to stick with cheep and cheerful mild steel from paddocks.

3 years on still happy and front section is only stating to go rusty, mid section looks as good as the day I replaced it (stone took umbrage to it and flattened it while dragging some logs out a forest) and the rear section is looking a bit flakey but still got years of life left in it.

Just food for thought
