If the pedal is soft first use I would have a look at the wheel bearings as that can allow the discs to move. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

All 4 Corners were done 3 weeks ago when the new discs and callipers went on! Then checked for the past 2 weekends Wink.

Brakes were like this long before that to!

Just having a play this evening as I parked up. Engine off, Pedal Solid, Hold Pedal turn engine on ... nothing ... release pedal then over the next 5 pumps or so it drops. Hold it firm and turn engine off. It then feels like it's forcing the pedal back up even with a good amount of force from me! Then properly solid!

jump pedal few times with engine off then if you hold pedal down lightly but not just resting foot on pedal but not pushing hard and you start engine does servo pull pedal down bit further ?

No, tried that before.

Don't get any movement like that!

It might be easier to just change the M/C and the Servo, but was hoping to suss out which it was! I always like to know what's going on!

Also checked diesel_jims suggestion to. Listened for hissing and nothing!

if it doesn't pull down then poss servo problem , I think you said you checked that you got vacuum on pipe , but if you haven't check that first

if you push pedal down slowly does it go down further then if you push it quick ?

if you lightly pump pedal up and down does it creep down lower and lower with each pump ?

Yep, PLENTY of vacuum, more than i expected tbh :p ... Almost lost me thumb!

If I push it slowly it just goes solid at same position as if I hit it hard per movement.

Doesn't drop I don't think no. I'd of noticed that whilst driving.

Maybe for the first couple it drops bit by bit a small way, after first turned on, but not by much!

servo or air leak as DJim pointed out would get my vote.

could also try adjusting the small bolt/nut on the the end of the MC where it meets the servo. ie extending it.

Something else to consider, after found fault, is a bigger servo if your going to change it anyway, Bearmach do one as an upgrade or fit an ABS one they are deeper. Cheers

I didn't think you could use the ABS one! Could be interesting though!

What advantage does it give? Greater assistance basically? Do you per chance have a part number for the upgraded BM one?

Tried almost everything to find an air leak! Will go around with some soapy water at the weekend see if I can pick anything up!

Will investigate the pedal movement. Not quite as easy as the clutch pedal is it? No bolts on top or an access panel I would hazard a guess at the pedal having to come out?

I'd be wary of the soapy water trick, bear in mind you're looking for a leak of vacuum not positive pressure, if you pour it onto the leaking area it will just be sucked inside.

Good point, forgot that bit! It should only be a tiny bit. Otherwise I have no way of testing. There's nothing which I can feel or hear anyway!

i have ABS ones fitted on both my autos to give a greater reservoir of vacuum for long descents etc.

there is no access panel to adjust nuts, you can do it by removing the MC from the servo, you wont need to break into the system to do it. Cheers

Hi JST,

When you say greater reservoir of vacuum, could you possibly expand a little on this? I'm not 100% on what you mean there.

As to parts, I have the standard ABS Servo part number from MicroCAT, just cant find anything on this BM item.

STC442R - its bearmach’s own branded servo – direct replacement for the original but for some reason they seem to give more assistance than the OE TRW version.

try Abergavenny Brake & Clutch Ltd, ajd@abcmotorfactors.com, thats who i got the info from.

Mountain Man on here has one on his 110. Cheers

its bigger, you can do more pedal depressions before you loose assistance from lack of servo. Cheers
