As to the little diff stick, mine is exactly the same, but it is just normal. A few years ago I had the same worry as you when I noticed that from right position it moved to something like a center position, I checked here on the forum, also with my dealer, but nothing to worry about, the diff only locks when you really push the stick left and the light goes on.
As to your brakes, that is probably a different issue. Get it to the dealer asap as understand your warranty is running out. Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

Just checked all 4 wheels and it's the same on all 4.
Will get a look over by an independant next week. This guy does mainly Defenders and builds his own competion buggy's so he should be able to put my mind at ease or not. First time I went there he taped up a bunch of electrical wires and tubes ![]() I wanted to make sure these things are not a potential driving hazzard. The stick is weird though, can't remember having that with the old box. I was worried there for a second. I will still pose the question though. Thx for the quick reply. PS I've ordered a 2 year warranty extention anyway. Seemed worth it in the end. |

If while turning the wheel by hand, the ignition was on,then its the traction control engaging and braking the wheel even if the engine is not running.

On or off, makes no difference apparently.

Don't forget that if you jack up any one wheel and turn it you're also spinning the axle diff gears, the centre diff gears and transfer box internals, and in the case of a rear wheel the handbrake drum as well. It won't just spin freely.

Yeah but the metal slipping sound seems to come wright from the wheel I turn itself. I should not hear anything then, wright?
Anyway as it seems to be the same ln all four wheels, chances are that it's normal. My sons golf had slipping brakes a few weeks back. It melted all the rubbers of his shocks and you could fry an egg on his rimms. Like I said, no abnormal heat on mine after an hours drive. Would be cooking as well if was bad I would think, but better be safe then dead I guess. As it is my first defender, I have no point of reference, which makes me question these things. Like to have a logical explanation. |
