Hi Guys,
Does anybody know of a flanged differential plug that suits defender axles? My front one has been tightened up so much by previous monkeys that its quite loose and I don't want to overtightened it and strip the threads, but as it is at the moment it leaks. I know of discovery 2 filler plugs as here http://galleryplus.ebayimg.com/ws/web/2709...0x1000.jpg but not sure if they will fit early defender axles? The Salisbury axle on the back has been damaged too and is being changed soon but would be nice to get them the same, any ideas? |

I would have thought they were the same, I considered them before but thought better of it in the end.

Once my replacement diff pan has come I'll have a proper measure of it but I think this will work

They are the same part

Excellent news
![]() Unfortunately they already have a good few wraps of PTFE all round and still she leaks. Its not like a flowing leak, just a wetness culminating in a drip which would be nice to get rid of ![]() |

the oringinal plug has a tapered thread , you may find a standard thread won't tighten properly or be very loose fit , also the surface round the plug hole is not made to have flange seal plug , or you may need to fit thick rubber washer on it to seal . I normally just clean the tapered plug and wipe small bit of rtv ( silicone sealer ) on the thread then refit |

You could use the flanged plug that you've listed and a sealing washer like these
