After turning engine off but leaving lights on (by mistake) I noticed a noise behind the headlight which stops when the lights are turned off and starts again when lights are turned back on. It sound like a mini compressor running. Any ideas?

It's just on the one (passenger side) I'll go and check it now.

That's what it is, changes tone when the switch is put to different positions. Goes off when the lights are off and back on when lights are on.

It'll be the motor yeah, leave engine & lights on for a while and it'll get to the right level and turn off Cheers, David

My headlight motors on the 2008 needed to be replaced as they had a mind of their own. Always went to lowest position on turning off the vehicle. On starting up they would EVENTUALLY return to normal height of their own accord, irrespective of the position of the intereor adjustment knob. Was not too good setting out at night with headlights pointing into the ground waiting for them to pop up to normal height! 1982 88" 2.25 diesel
